refrigerators: Northland or Jenn-air..or Liebherr
Comments (11)"Jenn-Air is a Whirlpool built product that is much the same as all the other brands that are sold under the corporate umbrella. Liebherr has the cachet and engineering of a world class refrigeration product." Perhaps a little more research could have been done here? Are you saying since Mercedes Benz, built a 240D that all their cars are much the same? Or since GM usta make multi-brands of cars, they were all the same. Or Since Bosch ownes Gaggenau and several other brands, and at least as of right now, the Miele Fridges are manufactured under the Bosch Umbrella, that these products are "All The Same"? Quite a claim! But, lets look at the facts. Jenn-air was one of the first, and they still do, use the variable speed compressor. Look at some of the new Liebherr adds, They now "Tout" "THEIR" varible speed compressor. As far as I can tell, none of the other Whirlpool fridges use that compressor (alto it is entirely possible I missed one). Anyway, point is, evaluate each appliance on it's own whether it be a Miele, Bosch, Kitchenaid, etc etc. Yep we can put them all under "One Umbrella" but I suspects somebody that spent 4X the price of a regular oven to buy a Gaggeneau and you call it an "Umbrella Bosch"---well You might hafta beat a "Hasty Retreat" from their kitchen!! Personal experience with a Jenn-Air 48" built in and panneled Fridge, 4 years trouble free, quiet, love the way it is laid out inside, Love the 3 different digitally controlled and displayed temp zones in the Refer compartment and No pulled back muscles trying to reach stuff on that very high shelf that the competition has. Good Luck with your decision!!! Gary...See MoreJenn Air, KA, Others? WWYD?
Comments (6)Welcome to the forum. The first advice anyone here will give you is to forget about matching. Keep your fridge and dishwasher if you like them. Get the best in class appliances for each category. Function over form. And anyway I personally like the look of different appliances better than matched ones. Ovens: Electrolux and Bosch get the most consistent positive reviews here and they both offer microwave stacks. I haven't seen many reviews of KA or JA. I have no experience with it but was impressed by the JA wall oven when I looked at it in the store and I definitely think it is worth consideration. I would axe KA because it does not allow you to turn off the convection fan. I have an older model KA which does let me control the convection fan and I love it but I wouldn't consider the new ones. JA does, even though they are both made by Whirlpool. Odd. Cooktop: Bluestar would be the best for performance because of the high BTU open burners. Thermador would be second best because of the star burners. As for the others I consider them all to be pretty much the same. There isn't much to go wrong with these so your primary concerns should be burner design and burner layout. Hood: Whatever you like the looks of and can afford. Try to maximize capture area by going one size up from your cooktop and considering depth. Comments (1)I'm looking at fully integrated 36" refrigerators too. The link below entitled "5 best counter depth refrigerators" shows a question on the Jenn-Air similar to yours. The commenter suggests Jenn-Air's spec sheet shows it sticks out some as your appliance person says. The appliance specialist also distinguishes between "professional" and "non professional" counter depth products, which seem the solution if you can. Here is a link that might be useful: Link:...See More48' built-in: Jenn-Air or Kitchenaid?
Comments (1)We bought the 48" Jenn-air (built in & paneled) over 3 years ago. We were originally looking to buy an SZ, but the inside of the Jenn-air, the way it is lit, the digital readouts for not just one but 3 different storage areas in the fridge, one "variable Speed" compressor, instead of the 2 SZ "conventional on/off compressors", along with a consumer Report rating of # 1 for reliability, won us over to Jenn-air. SZ was getting zinged pretty bad for reliability bout 3 years ago: I have several; posts up so no need repeating that. Well 2009 is here and things have not changed. Go here to see the latest Reliability ratings as well as user ratings (No it's not Consumer Reports)--we "Know they can't be right about SZ's. CR has chimed in for 2009 (for those of you) who at least like to use that as additional inputs on making a wise buying decision. CR says: OVERVIEW:The Jenn Air JS42FWD[W] has received one of Consumer Reports highest overall ratings. It's definitely a consumer favorite both for its gorgeous built in design and its spacious capacity and well designed interior. The Jenn Air refrigerators are extremely reliable and an exceptional list of unique features. Definitely a model to consider, especially if you're in the market for a built in unit. We did not want the ice thru the door or crushed ice, as on our previous GE the ice crusher didnt even last a year. I would check CR, Epinions, This site, The site I referenced above to find out anything I can about Jenn-air's Icemaker/crusher or any other fridge you are considering---so far I haven't read a lotta good things about any thru the door ice makers. Anyway the Fridge has been trouble free for over 3 years now. Good Luck!! Gary...See Morelascatx
