Windows Design Dilemma

Sheer window shades to counteract green tint of low-e glass

Can anyone suggest a product? Just put in all new windows and the light coming in is green. I didn't think I would notice so much! I found a white paint with a pinkish tint that really helps, but was thinking the right window shade would help even more.

Do you have a style that is already present in the home? Anything will work, but something with a color in it will likely minimize the appearance of the greenish hue.

I will also add that while some customer do note the appearance of the float glass green, most admit that they don't notice it after about 2-3 weeks.

Thanks for that last comment, I hope that is the case. We are still in the process of remodeling so no other decor yet. I was hoping for a sheer blind that would still allow us to see out but alter the color of the light coming in.

I've learned the hard way that if the light is weak, LoE will make it worse. it cuts out a bit of visible light and also gives it a blue-green hue. not noticeable with strong light, but pretty bad if that window is in a shadow most of the time. if you're still unsure, you could consider something lighter, like LoE2. these websites have handy charts that compare performance of LoE vs. regular glass. ASVInteriors 7 years ago You need to add complementary colours to green to tone down the green - look at the red family - I would suggest you gather every piece of red fabric and paint you can and place them in the room in different places for a day or so to watch how they react to the light... it is important you track how the colours are affected. Once you are ready to choose a colour for your walls (or wallpaper) do the same thing: add a large swatch on the wall and wait at least a week. It is true that if you add anything to glass windows these days (especially double-glazed) you can end up cracking the window... so wise not to do so.

The installer said that’s common for low e windows. I had a film company come out and put different shades of tint samples on the window and it does help to reduce the green hue at night. I’m waiting on the quote to see what the cost will be to apply the tint to the windows. However, I’m hesitant to apply the tint as I’m worried it may damage the new windows

jdallal2 what paint color did you choose to solve this? We have low-e glass in our Great Room, too. I'm choosing paint colors and anything light/white also has a sickly green tinge.

It's been a few years now, and I cringe when I drive up to my two-story, north-acing house with hideous green windows. Worst investment ever.

I hear you. Look at all of the high rise buildings now. They are green also. I’ll never like it.
