Which of 2 Grouts for my new Kitchen Tiles- only 2 Pics to choose
Comments (5)Ronaka, so I should choose the lighter Antique White grout? I was told that the grout dries slightly lighter than the stick so maybe that is why the stick is lightly darker. Which grout would be your choice? Thanks for letting me know. I definitely will be sealing the grout....See MoreHelp choose the wood floor tiles to go with my two-tone kitchen
Comments (20)Hmm. I'd sleep on it. See what bugs you more/draws you more. Go with your intuition. Put it in different spots. Look at it in different lights-morning, day, artificial lighting. Stop looking at them for several hours-and then look some more. Not easy I know. I choose my current flooring for a week minimum..gosh I was so silly I even took it next to my face and looked at both of us-me and floor sample lol-in the mirror..to see whether it flatters my complexion)) In the end I chose well, I love it. I'd say I love it madly. But to tell you the truth-if I picked something else, I'd probably like it too..) Because most of all I loved some flooring that we ordered-and were told it was discontinued. I had to choose again. I was so upset! Fast forward six years-I don't even remember what that first love of mine was.....See MoreKITCHEN TILE HELP!!!! Husband has to choose Kitchen tiles
Comments (9)Agree with everyone who says to wait if possible..you should look at the materials as they're to be installed..tile will be vertical-you should place it perpendicular to the countertop..or to the sample of the countertop:) When everything is just lying together horizontally you can't get a true picture..the color of the surfaces changes with the light, the light changes with a different angle. And in a different time of a day. Also, photos are often deceiving, as was already mentioned. It's not that the backsplash can't be chosen on an earlier stage-I did chose mine before I even knew the countertops etc. But yes, it was hard. If you can wait-wait. Also, about the beveled tile. In case you decide to go with it. Harder to work with, because of the cuts..something to plan on in advance, ask the installers how they'll go about it, etc. Actually, whatever you choose-think how you're going to finish the tile. Not one person mentioned it to us during the whole remodel, not the GC, not his subs, not the designer in the store(she was magnificent btw-but has she ever been to our house? no, she just advises about tiles-)and I didn't know about these forums yet:) Then months go by, lol, and they come to install the backsplash. We have the tile for several months already, so we're thinking we're good. Then it appears we need to order additional tiles to finish nicely, and it being a custom tile. takes another three weeks....See MoreHaving trouble choosing backsplash tiles to go with my new kitchen!
Comments (9)Something I learned here is that when you can't match the backsplash tile to the counter, match it to the cabinets. That doesn't mean it has to be boring. I'm assuming the stove is on the back wall, hidden from the main view, and since that's the typical focal point, you might want the tile to provide more interest than you usually see with elaborate cabinets. You have strong shapes in the cabinets and in the plank floor, so I think you just want a little touch of something special. I'd like a square tile at the counter and a subway above it. I love how this bottom row of squares is built out. The field tile is actually squares, which would be very traditional and give you a bit of relief from all the rectangles, but it could also be done with subways above. It would be pretty with all cream tiles too. I think squares at the counter need something to separate them from the subway field tile. They used multi-colored 1" mosaic here, with a very subtle touch of black. With mosaics, you can pop out tiles and sub in others to control the color. Because there's a lot of lighter colors, it doesn't look like a black racing stripe around the room. Often a pencil liner is used but I wouldn't recommend a solid black liner. This would be a pretty transition from your black counters to cream subways. The faded black tiles would pull in the gray floor too. This is gorgeous where they used long subways at the counter, a row of natural stone mini mosaic, and 2x6 subways above. You have to click on it to see the details. You can see that this is a busy kitchen but the layering of tiles doesn't make it too much. I hope you and your tiler knows not to tile your side splashes. I don't know what that counter piece is along the one wall. Maybe it's just resting there....See MoreSimmy Odette
