I recently noticed my printer is printing extremely slow. Could it be something I did in settings? I just looked and see no way to change it. Any ideas?

Not knowing your make and model of printer I am taking a guess here: Did you change a setting in your printer for it to operate in "Quiet Mode"? It does operate more quietly but at a noticeably slower speed.

What make and model of printer do you have? Mine prints much slower when I want a high quality print. Photo printing takes the longest.

Can you take a screen shot of the settings page of your printer?

Did the printer ever work properly? Did you install it according to instructions from HP? HP can be very specific in how the printer is installed, usually you insert the Cd and follow along without connecting the porinter until advised to do so. Does your printer bring up a window similar to mine? If so note on the left side there are options to print all or specific pages. Do you have a 'Properties' button to click and check various options?

I'll elaborate more on what I'm trying to do so it'll make more sense. I schedule appointments for technicians to go out and make repairs. Have to use pencil in the appointment book due to so many changes. At the end of the day, I have to make a photocopy of the appointment page and then fax that to the techs for the next day. Appt page will not fit in fax machine, too big, so I fold it, copy one side and then copy the other side. This was not a problem with my other printer but I have gotten a new computer and printer and now this one doesnt seem to print the hand written text as dark as my other one did. I can't find anywhere on the printer to adjust the settings to make it print darker. Thanks for your help.

Sorry for long delay in replying--I only go on line about once a week and missed last week's opportunity. Hubby solved the problem with a new ink cartridge. It was probably that all along. It was just that I couldn't for the life of me find where to "troubleshoot" that printer. My Lexmarks are so simple even I can do them--lol. Thanks all for the recommendations. I'll save them for "next time", as I'm sure there'll be one. Jann

So why not ignore the parts of your current printer you do not need and use the rest? There is not much of a market for used printers, unless you already have a buyer of course. Buying another while you have a useable one seems odd. Watch for sales, just a couple of weeks ago there were some Canons on sale for under $40. No idea where now but it was a great deal at the time and with the depressed economy bargains will pop up occasionally. There are 83 here, all between $50 and $100. Notice the 'Reviews'? click on any row of stars to read the reports of actual users to aid your search. I personally like HP or Canon. In a thread a few weeks ago a couple of users spoke highly of recent Lexmarks so perhaps they have smartened up somwhat.

When I just made a copy of something it worked fine. "I'm thinking maybe it was the website I was using. I have HP Deskjet 2132. I have not changed settings that I know of. I don't do any high-quality printing or photos.

Many inkjet printers have 3 modes of print: Draft, Normal, and Best. Draft prints the quickest with each of the other two being progressively slower. The best or photo mode prints at about half the speed of normal. Actually, for normal and best, the print-head and jets are working at the same speed, but the best setting is making more passes, laying down more ink per area, and using its best interlacing.

The usual setting is normal for most printing. Some users set their printer to draft mode as an ink saver for mundane and proof printing, and change to a better setting only as desired.

The next time you print the file that is slow to print, before clicking on the final print button, check the printer properties to see if it is being set to 'best'. That would explain the slower print-out. Also, it is possible that after printing that file, your printer may retain its 'best' setting until you set it back.

No way to change your printer settings? If you are using a later version Windows operating system, there is a way to check your printer settings each time you print. The print process is has two steps: First: You have the document you wish to print opened, and then select 'print', but instead of printing, a print menu comes up with a batch of options. Second: Most of the time, you ignore the options and click on the large square 'print' button. You'll get the default settings.

However, on this second print menu, there are options such as number of copies, print order of the pages, etc. There should be a little box called 'options' or some such depending on your printer software. Click on that box to see other options. One may be "draft, normal, best". Look around in the print menu to find your various printer settings.
