Target lamp vs Pottery Barn lamp - close enough?
Comments (30)Joanie, that's the same lamp that corgimum posted. I do like it. I think I got the BHG magazine in the mail the other day, I will have to look at it tonight when I get home to see if the lady's story/picture is in there. I am going back today at lunch to see if the glass jar at the antique store is still there. If I can't have it made into a lamp for reasonable, I will use it for something else, maybe a change jar for my future/someday trip to Italy. The opening to the jar is is probably 3.5-4 inches, and it has a lid that fits over it. I'll have to see what the lamp shop can do w/o paying so much that I should have just bought the PB one, LOL. I found the cutest shade last night at Ross. It's a Martha Stewart drum shade w/ a chrome metal edging on the top and bottom. It was only $2.99! I tried it in the Target lamp that I haven't returned yet, but I think it might not be wide enough. The top is 9.5 inches wide, and the bottom is 10.5 inches wide. I also think it would bee too narrow for the potential glass jar lamp. I'm going to try it on the original silver skinny lamp I bought at Target. If it looks good, then I might be able to use that on top of the chest of drawers. Are there rules about widths and heighths of lampshades in relation to the bases? Or is it just more of a whichever one looks better to the eye deal? Oh, for those that asked, the closest Home Goods is over by the airport, and it's a good 45 minutes one way form home, maybe more depending on traffic. I don't go there very often because I hate driving that far and then they have nothing. There used to be one in the same shopping center as my gym. I HATE they closed it! Seemed like they were always busy. Now it's a stupid ol' Staples. :(...See MorePottery Barn vs Crate and Barrel Sofas
Comments (9)I agree that reupholstering your EA sofas may be the way to go. I have a pair of hand-me-down 60 yo EA Bergere chairs and they're in wonderful condition. They're well-made, comfortable and came back to life with new upholstery. Of course, if you don't care for the lines of your old EA sofa, then there's nothing to be done for it. I bought a vintage sofa on Craigslist for $25, found 13 yards of fabric at an outlet for $37 and had an old country preacher reupholster it for $350. All told, I got a new-to-me sofa for just over $400. I wouldn't rule out EA, Thomasville, Drexel today. Their reputation is that they're pricey, but they've really had to drop their prices to stay in business. I was in EA this spring and they had a slipcovered sofa for $1200 or so that I looked at long and hard before going my vintage-cheap route. I've never heard a bad word about PB, et al, so I dug up the article lovesummer mentioned. I'd be very interested in these same folks looking at their furniture today. That article is now a full 3 years old and I've seen plenty of blurbs in the PB/C&B catalogs touting improved quality and value. Interesting findings. Comments (27)@Salina For the year we had the C&B Axis II it held up exceptionally well. Cushions looked just as they did when new. On the couple of occasions when a spill occurred, the stock Douglas fabric did what it's advertised to do - liquid rolled off and it resisted any staining. I say 'had' because we needed to leave it behind when we sold that much-too-big house for one half the size, tucked up high on a mountain top in California - where we are now. But we did like the Axis so much we're planning to buy a smaller version of it, once the remodel of the new place is complete....See MoreCrate and Barrel Axis II sectional in Douglas Ice color
Comments (153)@Anne Smith they are both comfortable to me (i had heard ery good things from axis owners) - for the 88" length the Metro deep is a little deeper - 43" vs 41"i think on axis overall and the "interior" depth from back cushioin to front edge of seat cushion is like 28/29" whereas i think it's more like 25 on axis. Metro seat cushions feel a little more "cushiony"/"springy" (but not soft) than axis which felt "firmer" - i think becausethe seat cushions on Metro (deep version only) are spring down (so coils in them) vs pure foam wrapped with down i . Also i think the back frame on Axis is taller and i think feels like it sits a bit more "upright" (the back of Metro feels more like C&B lounge sofa than Axis). Although the douglas fabric on Axis is very durable, the look was a little too "suedey" for me, and i couldn't use the ice or white color - I needed more of an ivory (so i would have gotten Icon pearl) . The ivory sumner fabric on the Metro is really nice (100% polypropylene)...See MoreBri Bosh
