No dafs here .... snow and more snow (sigh)

A very strange thing happened yesterday. 2 ducks landed on that line over the backyard and stayed there for a while. One on the right stood flat footed balancing itself in the wind, teeter tottering. It was like watching a circus act. The other was squatting down hanging on by its toes. I have never seen ducks on a line like that. They were a solid gray with a very bright orange bill and bright orange feet. We watched them through binoculars and suddenly something startled them and they were off.

I rode to meet a friend, then we rode to the downtown gardens to meet the group, to ride to where Chad was run over and killed. This is the Ghost Bike that was installed in his honer. Chad was only 31 years old, and riding home from work when he was run over and left to die. The driver actually dragged his bike which was stuck under the car for about a mile...

OklaMoni, I was going to like your picture, which I do, but the story is so heartbreaking.

Well, it's 24º here this morning. Spring is yet to come to my house. These are daffodils that have come up every year for over 20 years here at my house. The pictures are of past years and you can see that last year and this year Spring seems to come later and later. These were all right around the same date, different years.

Still too early, for Daffodills. These are from mid April 2018

My narcissus are finished with their bloom. But the Ginkgo 'Mariken' is breaking.

We had Narcissus [ETA: Jonquil] in our front yard in Venice, but they bloomed in January-February, and I am extremely allergic to them, and so I could not cut them and bring them inside. I'm not allergic to daffodils, but I don't have any here. I do like daffodils, but I don't know where I would put them.

Lars, I am confused. I thought Narcissus are daffodils.

Omg the ducks are back! In the same spot. We were outside in the car and hubby was bringing in groceries. They just watched us. We were directly below them.

jtc, I guess I meant to say Jonquil instead of Narcissus. Anyway, the flowers we had in Venice were small and extremely fragrant, and I have not noticed extreme fragrance with most daffodils, especially the larger ones.

Check out Black Bellied Whistling Duck. These ducks prefer nesting in trees. They have bright orange beaks and pink legs.

Omg that's what they are! What are they doing in my back yard? Should I try to feed them? I have no idea what is drawing them to the same spot. The one that stands on the line looks so uncomfortable.

Wow, that is really neat!! I looked them up on Audubon and it looks like they eat mainly seeds of various grasses and grains, plants, insects and snails. And they like ponds. What a great ID Jem. I have never heard of them before but they are common in Texas and Arizona and Mexico. Fantastic find!
