Help! Going crazy choosing towel racks, light fixtures, etc.
Comments (22)I've mixed brands of polished nickel, and am very happy with how it's turned out. In one bath I have a Pottery Barn quad sconce (discontinued; got it on ebay), Kohler faucets, a Ginger Chelsea grab bar and knobs and tank lever from Lowes. We're finishing the master bath now, and have Hansgrohe Retroaktiv polished nickel faucets, another Ginger grab bar (love it), and the Asbury triple sconce from Restoration Hardware. The sconce is not big in scale at all, and is over a 42" vanity. We like both sconces with lights pointing up so we don't look at the bulbs. Three 60-watt bulbs is plenty, and we have two can lights near the toilet/shower area. I'm using hooks for towels instead of bars, and found polished nickel ones at Lowes that I really like; they match the drawer knobs and tank lever that I'm also using. They're all traditional in style, and all go together really well. I don't think anyone would criticize that they are not from the same company. Good luck! Comments (25)In our master bedroom, we did a ceiling fan. The light is so dim on this that I never turned it on. In addition to this, we also have 4 cans. Again, I never turn them on. We have a lamp on each nightstand that we use to read at night. However, I LOVE the ceiling fan. It really moves the air in the room and makes sleeping all the more pleasant. (This from the biggest anti ceiling fan person in the world, go figure.) The pic was taken so during construction so it isn't boo-tiful, but you see the light failry well....See MoreNeed Help Picking Light Fixtures for Bedrooms
Comments (3)FWIW, if ceiling fans are fairly typical in bedrooms in your area (especially if you don't have central AC), you can get a simple ceiling fan with light kit for well under $50. Check out lowes.com which is offering free shipping on anything that can be shipped by ordinary means (meaning not by freight truck) on all orders over $49. They also have quite a few nice and inexpensive simple light fixtures - flushmounts and semi-flushmounts - so it's worth a look on that site. I was very pleased with the fixtures I got there; we sold our previous house last year and had to replace virtually every light fixture in the place, since most of it was tacky worst-of-the-80s fake brass with the finish peeling off. I think the only ones we didn't replace were in the garage and cellar! I also hit the clearance section at bellacor.com and got some very good deals on light fixtures there. There's one thing you have to pay attention to in their clearance department, though: up by the first "add to cart" button it will say something like "5 available to ship within 2 business days", but those are NOT the ones on clearance. Look further down the page, to the left of the SECOND "add to cart" button, and it will tell you how many are available at the clearance price. Usually it's only one or two per style because clearance items are typically customer returns (they're checked over to make sure all the parts are there though)....See MoreNeed help on daughter's vanity and bedroom light fixture!
Comments (2)I agree...the Home Design forum is great! That being said, I just want to add that if you're going to buy something that will last for years, then having the vanity 'grow' with her might be a good idea. That's the adult thing to do :) But....if you want to have FUN, go to Goodwill, find a cute little vanity and paint it blue or pink, stick some Elsa or Rapunzel stickers on it...and make your little girl very happy. If she's anything like my nieces, she'll love it! LOL Sometimes, it's more fun to do a temporary, fun piece of furniture...then upgrade or change to something they'll like more, as the get older. Just my two cents ;)...See MoreEleanor Smith-Litt
