Has has your weather been, and has it affected your garden?
Comments (28)Dry all last year and the beginning of this year (except for a 2ft snowstorm in Feb) until the last week of May when we got a month's worth of rain in 1 week. Alternating cold(30's) then hot (90) then cold (40's) temps in May and June, finally got tomatoes out the beginning of June and MORE rain! Poured for about 20 minutes at dinner last night, weather.com is showing 0 inches but I'm guessing 1/4". More gentle rain overnight, clear this morning and then this afternoon another T-storm. So I'm saying 7.5 -8" this month plus the 3.5" last week of May. Tomatoes are looking sad - I started replacing some yesterday and also planted 6 I'd been holding back. Haven't checked today to see how they've held up in the driving rain (had a couple broken last week). Peppers are still in 6-packs, I guess I can say they're hardened off though they may sunburn when I can get them out, 1 is blooming. Squash looks like it's loving this weather, cukes OK (seeded before squash and they're smaller), spinach is bolting and the kale and Asian greens are just OK. I guess I'll try to harvest mustard greens, tatsoi and bok choy for stirfry mix rather than salad greens since lettuce is so far behind. Carrots are disappearing, lettuce is barely coming in after seeding twice (every time I seed we have a downpour) but the arugula in the mix is getting tall (not bolting yet). Radish bulbs are finally starting to show above the ground 3 weeks after seeding and I don't know what's happened to my chard and beets that I've seeded twice. Beans are doing OK, but I lost 2/3 of my edamame. The only thing I'm harvesting right now that is doing really well is strawberries and they're coming to an end just as market season is beginning. Blueberries and brambles are coming along though....See MoreOT - Bad weather in your area?
Comments (13)Rebecca, that storm you saw passed on to Murphy, NC and did damage the Walmart, Big Lots, WKRK radio station antena and Wayne's Feed store also. Our little cabin is ok and the NC neighbors there are ok. One large tree came down and they got it cut up and toted off so the gal could use her driveway. Glad there were no injuries! Our friend in Blue Ridge, GA said it was quite a night Fri. She used her nervous energy to hem 4 pairs of jeans until 2 am! Our quilt group sent emails and kept in touch with each other with reports. They are safe. This Sun. morn. in Orl. we were pelted with winds and rains. Scary. Stay alert and safe, Everyone! Gwen...See MoreWhat's Your Weather Like?
Comments (12)Good morning all ~ Ernesto is still heading in our direction and is a tropical storm so far. If it stays on the projected path we will be on the wet and windy side. Right now it is hot, breezy and clouds are starting to circulate. The rains are supposed to start this afternoon. I'm at work waiting on a huge crate to get here, and plan to leave before the weather gets too bad. My stomach is a little in knots, just because of the hurricanes we've been through recently. This will be rain and more rain with some wind. They are predicting 5-8" of rain in a 24 hour period. I just want to get back home and hunker down. Marilyn ~ I sure wish we would really have some fall weather. Down here where the tropics begin, we barely have a sign of autumn, as much stays green all year. I'd love to smell the burning wood scents and see the trees changing colors, etc. etc. Enjoy and think of me down here where it's hot and humid for much of the year. Do you use a bread machine? I really enjoy using mine. I don't have time to do it the good old-fashioned way. Diana ~ Your kitties stretched out like little rugs sounds like a cute picture. We've got to rig an above ground sprinkler system for our cottage gardens. We've been busy enclosing the pole barn and doing other things after Wilma's fury passed over us last year. Hopefully this fall/winter/spring we'll be able to get some other projects underway. There's always something to do that's for sure. Happy Fall to all of you who are blessed with living where there are a change of seasons. FlowerLady...See MoreWhat's your Christmas weather forecast like?
Comments (27)Horrible!!!!!!! Beginning tomorrow heavy snow, it will last til Friday. I have a knot in my stomach already!!!!! I know I will worry myself sick.. DGD is supposed to come from Mn to her Daddy's tomorrow night. Will leave Thursday evening. DD Heather is on her way to pick up DGS Drew right now. There is no school, nor daycare and boys Mom has to work. Drew will be in town by early evening. Other DGS Hunter was to be with his Dad and come Thursday afternoon after work. The other grandparents are like 12 miles from me. DD #1 (the boys' Mom) was going to come THursday afternoon after work too. Her and her ex's family with Hunter will have to travel 120 miles cross country! The worst part of the storm is expected to be from Thursday afternoon into Friday afternoon! So now I am worrying about DD #1 driving alone and what if she doesn't make it here? Worrying about DGS Hunter and his dad not making it. Worrying about DGD being on the road (DGD's family goes no matter what the forecast!) They are saying between 8 and 12 inches of snow!!! Winds 35 to 50 MPH! This would paralyze the state and close roads and both Interstates here! D@mn it! I was so hoping for a brown Christmas this year and not have to worry!!!!!!!!!!!...See Morebengardening
