TH: Periods of snow mixed with freezing drizzle (30)
Fr: Snow mixed with freezing drizzle in the morning, changing to all snow with SIGNIFICANT accumilations (30)

YES WE'RE UNDER WINTER WEATHER WATCHES AND ADVISORIES at this time...could get up to 18+ inches of snow (we never know until closer to the time, depends on where the storm front is, could be significantly more, or less)---RUDOLPH WE'LL NEED YOU IN MINNESOTA!

Sat: Snow tapers to flurries, temps drop with sub zero windchills. (17)

Yes folks it will be almost blizzarding (I know it's not a word) here in Minnesota on Christmas Eve and Christmas day. Oh well, that's MN.

Ours doesn't sound good. I worry about people who insist on traveling in spite of the warnings not to. DS & DGS are planning on coming to our house for C. Eve. Those plans can be changed if the winter storm blows in. Hubs & I are staying home. Please stay safe, Dear KT family. Dottie

I know it wont be as bad, but DARN, I was just outside and everything is just starting to look good. Ann, you know things have developed slowly this year, and that was good because we didn't need a repeat of last year. So to loose it now would be doubly bad. It's not just the roses, although to lose the buds on my once blooming monster QE would be bad, but the hydrangeas and my poor Japanese maples that almost lost half their growth last year from frost damage. And my one crepe myrtle that got badly zapped last year and is now 3 feet shorter than the ones near it and is all budded out already. I did read in Horticulture Mag that last year was a perfect storm. Warmer than normal Winter and March seduced everything to grow earlier than normal. Then ZAP 3-4 days and nights of freezing temps. Good thing is it is going to be wet, so that should help. And I have bags of shredded leaves that I can put on somethings like my hydrangeas and at least protect the lower growth. And it's not going to be as cold during the day (supposedly) so maybe that will make a difference.

I use my local tv station's website, WGRZ Buffalo, and I use weather.com because they say that they get my temperature as close as 1/4 mile from where I live. However, if any of them say 32 degrees, we cover the trees no matter what, just because of microclimate issues and just because anything can happen, temp wise, overnight on a clear night. I really want to stress that blankets are the best way to go for freezes that come along. We use 2 blankets over each tree, and as of today and having dealt with a month of frosts/mostly freezes down as low as to the mid 20's, I have zero foliage damage whatsoever. This is not a brag, this is me sitting here stunned realizing that what I thought was me going overboard in protecting these trees, was not overprotecting at all; it was doing exactly what they needed, having just been planted 1 month ago. So anyone out there, if you are protecting trees 4 feet and under like I am, using tomato cages ($2 a piece) and a couple of fleece blankets over them, will likely protect your plants 100%. They did mine. They're calling for 32 here tonight, and possibly down to mid 20's in certain areas, so we just went out and covered them a little bit ago, before my husband went to work. It's a pain because it takes about 45 minutes to cover all of them, but seeing the leaves bright green and not having any effects whatsoever, has been worth these weeks of aggravation.

Suzie, You never know, she might get a thundersnow storm. We've had a lot of them in recent years. I grew up in Texas just about 80 or 85 miles south of where we now live in Oklahoma, but I'd never even heard of thundersnow until we moved here. I won't say we have thundersnow here at our house every year that snow falls, but probably about every other year. We had it last year, and we've already had it this year. Jim Cantore was very entertaining the other night. I'm sure a lot of that is part of the "show" he puts on for the camera, but I also think he was shocked to see thundersnow that far north. The other weather phenomenon we have here that I don't remember having in Texas is derecho winds. The first one we experienced here came during the night with 60 mph winds and hit the house so suddenly and so hard while we were sleeping that we thought a semi-truck or an airplane had hit the house. I also had about 20 flats of plants on the screened-in porch (so it must have been April) and we had to run out and bring them all into the house because the temperature plunged probably 30 degrees in 10 minutes when the derecho wind hit the house. I think we've experienced 3 or 4 severe derecho wind storms at our house since then. The one I remember best, the local met on the TV news at noon told us it was coming and told us if we went outside 5 or 10 minutes before it was due to hit our area, we'd hear it coming like a "mighty rush of wind". Of course, Tim and I went outside 10 minutes before it was s supposed to hit and went down to the road so we'd have a clear view of it coming by looking up the roadway (too many trees around our house). Sure enough, a few minutes later it came roaring towards us like a freight train (we could hear it for a minute or more before we could see the blowing of the vegetation begin) and we went from clear skies to dark grey ones in about a minute as the wind blew through and the temperatures plunged. The other one I remember was a severe derecho squall line with multiple bow echoes accompanied by tons of lightning. This time, the TV met kept cutting into regular programming to warn that anyone working outside needed to get inside by a certain time. Our barn-style detached garage was being built then, and the buys working on it were welding steel beams together. I talked with them about the weather and convinced them to heed the warnings, get down off the structure, put up all their tools and head home. They literally were driving down the driveway when the derecho hit here and the first raindrops started falling, and we sure did have lightning! I was glad they weren't up on that metal framing when it hit. You've got to admit, Oklahoma's weather is never, ever dull. Dawn Here is a link that might be useful: Facts About Derecho Windstorms

Hermitian, who the hell asked you? You're not looking for more company are you? Hermitian is indeed looking for company, but we are the wrong gender! I have seen photos of his place and I think he needs our help though. It's much too nice for one guy. We would need a few weeks for assessment of the place, before we could even give any advice. Hermitian appears to be somewhat of a good cook too, so as long as he feeds us, we will do it out of the goodness of our hearts. Then the postal abbreviation can be changed to MZ, better than MO, which of course is a phonetic reference to one of The Three Stooges. OK, now I will never forget MO as the correct abbreviation. My brother in law is from MO, and well if the shoe fits! A few years ago I saw that arch. It is impressive and the building of it is funny. When they got to the top, it didn't line up! Ha! They figured a way. First thing they did is fire Larry and Curly! They hired some guy named Shemp. Later they added another Curly Joe.

I'm just feelilng sick about our forecast.....we planned to drive down to Mpls. area Christmas Eve, with celebration on Christmas day. DGD and her new husband (military) were to fly in for a three day visit, then off to his family in Illinois. Most of the family had planned on the Christmas party, so I don't know what will happen now, with this horrible weather predicted for Minnesota.

Here in our area of Georgia:

Thursday: Few showers. Highs in the low 50s and lows in the upper 40s.
Friday: Occasional showers possible. Highs in the low 50s and lows in the mid 30s.

In other words, cold and wet.

Another one in Minnesota, here. Winter Storm Watch from Wed. evening through Christmas Day. It's only 3 miles to my parents house and if we don't make that we'll go when we get dug out. I should mention that those are 3 miles on mostly gravel roads down this treacherous, curvy hill.

In my part of Ohio:

Christmas: Cloudy, windy, rain mixed with some ice early, low 32, high 42.

I don't like the 'ice' part.

I pray all Christmas travelers will be safe.

Sat. 63-44
Sun. 62-40

Just got that off the weather channel site. It's changed and now cooler that earlier predicted. But that's Florida for 'ya.

I feel for those with ice and excessive snow in their forecast. It makes it so hard on the families wishing to travel.

Our forecast for the week is temps in the 40's and rain, then colder air and snow on Christmas day. I haven't heard how much they are predicting, but since the temps will be in the 40's in the days before I hope the roads will be fine.

Horrible!!!!!!!
Beginning tomorrow heavy snow, it will last til Friday.
I have a knot in my stomach already!!!!! I know I will worry myself sick..

DGD is supposed to come from Mn to her Daddy's tomorrow night. Will leave Thursday evening.

DD Heather is on her way to pick up DGS Drew right now. There is no school, nor daycare and boys Mom has to work. Drew will be in town by early evening.

Other DGS Hunter was to be with his Dad and come Thursday afternoon after work. The other grandparents are like 12 miles from me.

DD #1 (the boys' Mom) was going to come THursday afternoon after work too. Her and her ex's family with Hunter will have to travel 120 miles cross country!

The worst part of the storm is expected to be from Thursday afternoon into Friday afternoon!
So now I am worrying about DD #1 driving alone and what if she doesn't make it here?

Worrying about DGS Hunter and his dad not making it.

Worrying about DGD being on the road (DGD's family goes no matter what the forecast!)

They are saying between 8 and 12 inches of snow!!! Winds 35 to 50 MPH! This would paralyze the state and close roads and both Interstates here!

D@mn it! I was so hoping for a brown Christmas this year and not have to worry!!!!!!!!!!!

Our weather forecast is for bad weather the rest of the week. Snow, ice, wind, etc. I just returned from grocery shopping and my car won't leave the garage again until Thursday noon when we deliver Meals on Wheels. DS and I are candle lighters at church Thursday evening and then we deliver for Meals on Wheels again on Friday. I am so glad I don't have to leave town for the holidays.

Just went under a winter warning and a blizzard warning for the area here in northern ND for Christmas. Planing to stay home anyway, but concerned about GD and great gk coming Christmas eve. At least if the make it here, they can always stay overnight.
All of us in the midwest, prayers for safe travel, and PLEASE do not take chances. Your life is worth much more that getting together.
