carrier hvac or trane hvac
Comments (5)Jt Some questions please. What is your location? What size home living area? What size furnace and eff are you replacing? What size AC are you replacing? I would like to know the exact mdl number evap coil for each quote. What thermostat is proposed for the Carrier quote? That is a big difference between the 96% eff Carrier furnace and the 80% eff Trane furnace-both 60 K input. That would be about 56 KBTUs output on the Carrier and about 48 KBTUs on the Trane. Not insignificant. I don't care for some shortcuts that homeowners make particularly on reusing linesets and using existing thermostats that shortchange a nice furnace's operational capability. Post back with the info requested. IMO...See MoreHVAC Replacement in Atlanta, GA Condo
Comments (7)Never assume anything with HVAC. The XR13 packs a lot of firepower and is great system. Comments (30)If you get a condensing furnace, I am not sure that relining the way your contractors are describing it is even sufficient. Sometimes that means putting ceramic in previously unlined brick chimneys. Sometimes that means stainless pipe (maybe insulated) as an added flue. There are kits that put concentric, or perhaps individual, plastic pipes up your existing chimney for use with new condensing furnaces and boilers. They are pretty simple to install from what I've seen. The kits have concentric, flexible plastic pipe that is supported by built-in spiders touching the existing flue walls. You can put the intake and flue on separate locations, but I think that care is needed to be sure that wind won't affect overall pressure too much. If the water heater uses the same flue it is problematic. Of course you can't share a plastic flue with a non condensing water heater. The gas is too hot. I don't know the rules for shared flues for condensing equipment either. If this were my home and I faced that plastic flue placement problem, I'd look into this detail. Using your existing flue for an existing gas, low efficiency water heater only is probably going to be problematic in itself because it will be too big for the appliance and cause condensation in cold weather. Google will be your friend here, but others on this board may know the detail as well....See MoreShould I replace 13 year HVAC?
Comments (9)The AC condenser is low end Lennox. How do you know? Even I am not that good of a psychic. Lennox made a bunch of 2 speed R22 units back in the day, that some certain models were really good units back in the day. These were NOT 'low end' units. So just because the brand is something you don't like doesn't mean much Tiger. No where does it say on this thread what unit the OP has. If it's not repaired properly it's even more prone to having other failures. ---------- R22 is only illegal to be produced, it's not illegal to be used in servicing older air conditioners provided all reclaiming rules are followed there is nothing preventing the repair of an R22 Freon system. Currently those in the reclaiming Freon industry believe there will be more than enough to serve the HVAC industry up through 2030. So while you should start considering replacement options, there is still plenty of time. I service the Katy, Texas area. I work on all brands. I do not bash brands.... THEY ALL BREAK!...See Moremike_home
