This Mockingbird showed up yesterday. About a month earlier than last year.

I was visiting a friend and this fellow walked into the middle of the road, stood there for what seemed like a long minute and then turned around and went back.

I'm so ready for spring.

I'm almost afraid to ask gyr...what am I seeing that I'm not seeing...

The answer depends upon if you see art, or something else, Annie. If art, do you see a phoenix, or something different? If you are more interested in the art technique, I can explain how the it was made.

I have not noticed seasonal birds here - I guess I do not live in a migration path. I've not seen blue birds here (except for blue jays), and I've only seen one robin, which was in Anza Borrego State Park one February. We have Allen's and Anna's hummingbirds all year, as well as mockingbirds and a variety of finches. When I lived in Venice (close to the marina), I saw kingfishers, pelicans, seagulls, etc. but I never photographed them. I see more birds when I go to the desert or the beaches.

I was out at my cardio class and some errands afterwards. I came home to this.....a broken water-main.

KNOWING the water would be turned off, what do I do?? Yep, slather some liquid hand soap on my hands. Oh yeah, no water. BUT, thrifty (or cheap) human that I am, I always have water in a bucket beside the sink.........water that I ran while running it to temp out of the tap. I few mugs of that over my hands and all is well.

caflowerluver are those pine siskins? We had them here in west PA about 5 years ago in what was called a irruption year. Dozens of them at a time at the feeders. Enjoyed their visit.

Jas, in a pinch you can take the lid of the tank at the back of the toilet (if you have a tank there) and wash/rinse your hands in there. Just don't flush, unless you have to, till your water is turned back on.

That terrible mean hawk that watches us constantly. And eats the baby birds from the bird house.

lgmd_gaz - I don't know if they are pine siskins or not. I am not very good at identifying birds, but from pictures I have seen they look like them. I love how these birds like to travel in large groups. Never noticed that in other birds except crows.
