Install ledger on siding?
Comments (1)Take off the siding, install the ledger/all needed flashing to the framing, reinstall siding. Using any of the stand off metal conectors,or spacers like your talking about depend on the caulking used around the bolt holes to keep the water/weather out of the house. No matter what it says in the fine print any caulking will begin to fail the day its put on. John...See MoreInstalling interior shiplap
Comments (6)I didn't build the house, but I own a home with 10 year-old shiplap. Most of the house is drywall with shiplap installed over it. All of the exterior walls are drywall and shiplap. I have found one small interior wall that is shiplap only. I found it when one room was dark and the adjacent room light was on. I could see the light through the gaps. You should not use shiplap in wet locations such as bathrooms and laundry rooms. One problem with ship lap is wood curing over time. Unless you paint the entire surface, meaning both sides, the board will continue to dry, shrink and warp. Part of this change is attractive and part of the material. If you are at all OCD, this twisting will drive you nuts. (I'm a little OCD, but I try to keep it under control.) What Joanna Gaines doesn't show you is what a wall will look like 10 years from now. She started using shiplap as a material out of budgetary necessity. It was common to find in her area of the country in lower end houses. And, her clients had very limited budgets. She made what she found a feature. Adaptive reuse. Remember, the paneling that she encountered had cured to a very stable state. Also, the wood tended to be old growth wood and much more stable than what we can find today. Shiplap is like any paneling. It will cost you double for the material and triple for the installation. Then you have to paint, stain or seal it. It's costly. I suggest to those that want this look, do one feature wall and drywall the rest. You get the vibe without the enormous cost....See MoreWall decor help!!
Comments (17)I thinks it's very nice. If you could shift everything to the right by one foot, (leave the plant) it might look a bit less smooshed. What if you moved the plant to that spot? in the corner is ok, but it looks a little crowded. you could do a smaller plant on a stand and move the tree to the left of the tv. or try a medium sized plant in a basket or something, and put it between window/tv on the right or, just do a simple framed piece of art. Or,,,, this one they put a small chair,,,...See MoreExterior paint color help!
