Color scheme for bathroom towels
Comments (12)I have more than a dozen sets of towels, in all different colors (except white; my white towels are ancient). Here's how I would answer your questions: If the bathroom has colored tile in the shower area, are the bathroom towels supposed to be the same color as those tiles? And, if so, are they supposed to be darker color or lighter color than the bathroom tiles? I would choose a coordinating color towels. For example, if the shower tile is light blue, I'd get dark blue towels. If the tile is dark, I'd get light towels. But, what if the tile color was white? Then, you'd simply pick a white towel or do you want a colored towel to make it pop? I'd get colored towels that coordinate with the decor of the rest of the room. And, what happens if there are several different colored tiles in the shower area? Do you try to match the lightest color, medium color, or darkest color? I'd pick the color I like best and get towels in that color. Or I'd get towels in each color and mix-and-match them. Or, are you supposed to pick towel colors on the basis of the wall color in the rest of the bathroom, not the tile color? Assuming that the walls and tiles don't match, I'd get towels that go with both if possible. Or I'd paint/paper the walls to coordinate with the tile and go from there. Comments (12)I like the plum brown -- the purple only comes through where the sun is hitting it and it's almost an undertone elsewhere. I agree with filling the grooves and changing hardware -- try wood filler, but go gently. That stuff can be hard to sand down, especially if you have clumps of ridges. Work to have it go ion smooth. Fill and scrape off any excess before it dries so that you only have lighter sanding. Like spray paint, you would rather go with a few lighter coats than going to heavy. The panel might come off is nailed or screwed in place, but if it has glue, alone or with nails, it could tear up the wood. Just depends o what it is and how much is there holding how tightly. I'd try filling first. Another possibility is to try the paint first The dark color will make the grooves less obvious. And then there is the take the challenge and make it a feature approach. Look at painted furniture for ideas and make that panel a becomes a feature -- with a stencil, wallpaper, fabric (might be risky in a bathroom, but you could seal it.-- if it gets messed up, paint over it). Sounds like you are considering hte plum now -- tell DH it isn't purple -- more brown with an attitude or some character. Sounds better than raisin, doesn't it?...See MoreColor scheme ideas for bathroom with maple cabinets
Comments (7)The easiest thing to do is blend all the existing colors together to make a monochromatic scheme. So leave the cabinets and tile alone, and find a quiet color that has some "pink" and "orange" in it. Take a look at the Benjamin Moore Color Stories series. There's a color called "From the Archives" that's essentially a buff with a little pink. A rust or terra cotta from that series, such as "Approaching Autumn" would also work. These colors will warm up the space, which doesn't appear to have any natural light. In addition, these colors have a lot of complexity that will raise the design level of the room without costing you much money. Don't try to cheap out with the paint, it doesn't look good, and bad paint in a bathroom is trouble. The shower curtain and towels could then be white with a black stripe, like ticking. That's quiet, neutral, and classic-- you aren't committed to a major accent color, and it's easy to add on some color later, with pictures, flowers, soaps, etc....See MoreColor Scheme for Bathroom Facelift - cabinets, walls, ceiling
Comments (2)I would leave the cabinets the cherry they are right now, but, would update the countertop and light fixture and the cabinet hardware, since those things are what is causing the bathroom to look a bit tired. Then, I would get some color on the walls, so it has some life and interest. Right now, it is a bit on the blah side. Nice sized bathroom, and it looks to be well maintained....See MoreDenice Shuty
