We have travertine in two bathrooms. One has an English wallpaper of cream background printed with green scrolls and squirrels and gilt acorns... with this one we use all white towels and the cabinetry is white. The other bathroom has a yellow and red chinoiserie toile wallpaper, a painted vanity (dark taupe) and red towels. Both look great---and that is by way of explaining that you can do almost anything you want to with traverine.. it lends itself to a variety of styles and colors.

I took more pictures of the bathroom as it is right now so you can see what I'm dealing with. One of the maroon tiles on the shower wall fell off and cracked, so between that and the toilet repairs was what got me thinking it's time. Also if you notice the outlet on the vanity/light fixture that's not GFI so that will need to get updated and the ventilation fan I would really like to move to the ceiling where it belongs. Oh, forgot to mention that tonight when I was working over there, I had an accident. I have paper runners laid down to keep the freshly varnished floors clean (I have 2 more coats to do and don't want them all tracked up). Anyway, as old homes do, there is a huge square hole in the floor of my bedroom where the cold air return is. Yup, you guessed it, I fell right in. The paper was laid over it and I walked right in to it. I busted the duct underneath and had a hard time pulling myself out. Ironically I hurt the leg that didn't go in far worse than the one that did. The one that fell through got all cut up from the duct but the other one took the force of the fall on the wood floor and my ankle is twisted and my knee is black. I really love this house because you know what, I don't care. :) It's all good. In a couple weeks I can rest my weary broken body in my new home!!! The accident, however, does prevent me from going to the decorating store tommorow and finding inspiration for everything. I'll probably spend half the day with ice on the knee and the other half hobbling around talking to my friend who is coming to take measurements to move the toilet over for me.

how high is the ceiling? first thing I'd do is get rid of those blinds! change then paint, and do some slight modifications. everything else is fine. for instance, you could do a walnut stained beadboard on the ceiling and add a cool light fixture. trim out the window w/black, get a nice roman blind you could also do a painted white paneled ceiling. any room for a vintage linen cabinet? shiplap would be appropriate in there. black ceiling, black trim around window and a nice fresh white blind. add some greenery black ceiling, white lights, bright green/yellow accents. Here's the blue color mentioned. add green towels, new lights, new window shade black walls, maybe add some white tile wainscot As you can see, there are tons of ways to work w/your bathroom.
