Skyrocket Junipers browning
Comments (25)HI All For a Manhattan large roofgarden-we have large pots & wanted skyrocket junipers for their color & column shape. We get plenty of sun. Blue arrow is another candidate. But now I am reading about all the browning & dieback problems with these. This is a co-op & we don't have the budget to keep replacing these. We need 8 total. We like the blue color and the tall narrow shape. Any specific juniper recommendations for the NYC area? OR should we stay away from junpier altogether? TY so much- very infomrative community !...See MorePrivacy Screen - 12' between fence and house. Spartan Juniper?
Comments (9)The house faces north, and this is the side yard, so the fence runs perpendicular to the front of the home. Fence (chain link)is on the west side of the home. It separates us from a next-door neighbor. I'll observe the sun...I have been so far. I'm fine with the height continuing the grow above 15 ft. I'm using the 15 ft as a measurement where the tree may start to slow down its growth, not stop growing...I know they will grow perpetually. I just don't want to put something with a listed height of 30 or 60 feet, as that implies it will get there before slowing down. Otherwise, why would anyone care about a height measurement at all? So, pruning the height is not a concern to me. Pruning the width may become a concern if the tree encroaches on my 11-12' area between the fence and the house thereby preventing the ability to walk through the area. I'm looking for privacy when in the yard too, as the kids may still play in that narrow area...don't need the crazy dude watching them constantly. We can put blinds in our windows for interior privacy. Thanks!...See MoreDoes 'Blue Arrow' Juniper handle snow better than 'Skyrocket'?
Comments (16)You probably already planted, but if it doesn't work out, my direction would have been to use vines behind the arborvitae. Then the fence can be covered while not limiting root/growth space of any evergreen. Such overcrowding will mean less water resource and air circulation, which means pests like spider mites or fungal issues. Use galvanized wires to help them cling to the fence better. and junipers are only full sun. anything less is asking for issues later....See MoreBest evergreen privacy tree/hedge to plant along fence?
Comments (4)I would only use something like that while waiting for the plants to grow to over 12 ft. Long term, I want the plants to provide privacy. Obviously, it would need to be taller than shown in this picture to block the neighbor’s view from their 2nd story windows. Double that height? Would any of these work in this area?...See MoreYardvaark
