I can't understand it but now I like my backsplash!
Comments (56)I'm going to try to post in the FKB in the next few days (won't be totally finished though as my switches and outlet covers aren't done and no window treatments either). moonkat99 - thank you I am glad to have added some uniqueness to the kitchen as I don't want it to be a boring same as all the others kitchen. Initially I had thought to put in tiny subway tiles of white marble but that would have lacked the interest and pops of color. It's always hard to know though how it will all turn out so I'm glad you like it. raehelen - actually DH got the whole butler's pantry in dark wood too. I'd say it's 40% dark! Not too bad. Good luck with your kitchen I know it's exhausting but you'll get through and have a fabulous kitchen to enjoy in the end....See MoreCan't decide on kitchen counters or backsplash
Comments (12)Do you have natural light coming in? I am not sure how small your kitchen is but if it is dark I too would avoid a dark counter. My former kitchen was 10 by 15 but it opened up to another room with buckets of light coming in from giant windows. Dark worked in that small kitchen. My new place (about to be a reno'd) has a bigger kitchen and I would not go with dark counters as it does not have natural light coming. I need to stick with a medium to light counter. What about a lighter granite with a traditional edge? Maybe like this one... If your instinct say the space is small and dark go with your instinct. A few other ideas that look so pretty. Maybe this one below would not work with the floors but the one above might....See Morehelp! can’t decide on backsplash!
Comments (4)I think your post is fine, not sure what she means. You definitely have some good choices, but without the cabinet doors on, it is hard to tell. Personally, I like the one in the 3rd picture. If your cabinets are white, do you want something with some color? What does the floor look like?...See MorePlease help with picking backsplash tiles color!! Can’t decide!!
Comments (11)Looking at your last photo, I'm not feeling the "countertops are too cool" reaction that grey and cream elicits. Marble has been used with cream tones for a bit of human history, and white your faux marble is faux, I love the way your choices look. Full disclosure, I have a cream and white kitchen. If you want a darker backsplash, eid6161 shows you a nice option. But, if you like the look of your last photo, and you may not, look for a tile that matches either your cabinets or your counter. Pick one. I'd choose to match the white counter, which is basically what your last photo depicts. In this cream and white kitchen, the backsplash matches the whites of the upper cabinets, while the cream counters and lower cabinets match. But they could also have let the white uppers stand alone and married everything else. (The article talks about cream and white kitchens.) https://mariakillam.com/cream-kitchen/ I'd steer away from the brown family shown on the current tileboard. Those tones are pretty muddy. I understand the instinct to repeat the wall tones, but I personally think the current contrast enhances both....See MoreJamie Ludwig
