How to treat transom window over bed
Comments (20)Wow, thank you for all the responses! cyn--The house we are looking at is in a 55+ community. Not sure if we can plant trees, but it's certainly a question I can ask. mtn--I love my 4-poster bed, so I'm not ready to chop the posts off. It's a shaker pencil point, so maybe it won't look too badly. geokid--I love barn doors and that would be an awesome look! Your solution is great. Thanks for the pics! mayflowers--I did find one photo on Houzz with shutters on what appeared to be a similar size window. I guess if I'm willing to dish out the cash, I can always have it made. nosoccermom--Thanks for the picture. Beautiful room! LuAnn--Yes, I know the sun comes up in the east, but in my part of the country the entire sky gets light too. ;) sasafras--I'm leaning toward leaving it uncovered, at least to start. momcat--I had mentioned stained glass to DH. Since I don't think I would have room to put any art (or at least what I current have) over the bed, that could solve two issues. chispa--I have duettes in my current home and love them. Motorized would certainly be the way to go. You certainly are light sensitive! xc60--Having the window in that location pretty much dictates where I would put the bed, though I've considered locating it in front of the double window due to other furniture placement. I think having a window hanging in the air might look strange, however. What do you think? patricia--another vote for leaving it open. Thanks! marti--was it difficult to reach the levers to close? I'm vertically challenged at 5'2". Guess that would be DHs job! yayagal--I'm glad to say we are not so bothered by light as you and others, now if we could get the birds to stop chirping in the summer at 4 a.m....See MoreHow would you treat this window/slider combo?
Comments (13)Thanks for the responses! Amity - thank you for adjusting my photos, I am not a photographer that is for sure. Gray - I agree about no tab tops, seems like thats an invitation to a nightmare. You think it would look ok to have blinds on the windows but not the door? Love your suggestion of Carmel - without seeing my whole room, I must tell you that carmel would look really good in here. Oceanna - I have looked at the JC Penney online site. I can get bogged down looking at inspiration pics, because I like so many of them. That's why in the end, I love to ask for opinions from all of you. So much talent in one place! Amity - did you make your draperies? Have you posted a pic on this forum? I am toying with the idea of sewing these myself, but am scared to try it; thats a lot of fabric to screw up! These will need to be lined, also. Do you think that a lined faux suede will be too heavy for clip on rings? Callaloo - thanks for the visual. I have thought about grommets also. I did wonder if they would hang up, especially if I do lined faux suede. As you can tell - I have zero experience in the window treatment department. One of my concerns is that the width of the windows and the door are not equal. Do you think it will be a non-issue in the end? Would I make both panels equal to the greater width of the windows to make them "appear" to be the same width? Am I totally in over my head and should I just call out the experts? I hate to pay for labor on anything I can do myself!...See MoreHow would you treat these windows?
Comments (10)I do girls weekends(book club), so one lady per bed. If we have a full crowd then we are known to double up. Most of us have been friends for years so are not averse to sharing a bed for a getaway. Kind of gets silly as expected. At holidays my son and a male cousin could share the room and not have to share a bed. A couple would use one bed and throw luggage on the other. I did a thread on GW not too long ago and decided 2 queens was the best all around solution. I will try flipping the beds and tv and see how it works. It would be a prettier view from the beds....See MoreHow to treat tall triple living room windows?
Comments (3)Buggy ahead of a horse. First, what's the climate. Is it needing the AC 12 months a year? Four months a year? The view. Not exactly great You need to separate the curtain panel concept from the privacy concept. If this were my window? I'd want a soft, semi sheer privacy treatment to partially obscure an unfortunate view, In cold or cold months? A chest ior console in front of that ac unit. A lamp on it. Curtain panels in double width on a nice rod with a middle support t, and to look good? No less that a double width panel each side. Privacy beneath? A woven shade,,,,, a Hunter Douglas Silhouette, None need to be three separate, as once lowered? it will not matter the lowest portion on left and right are uncovered. That's how you make the best of a bad thing . If you need the AC all year long? You simply move the console or chest for those months OR you use a very open console, and park a nice full, fake leafy plan beneath. That can be easily yanked away. : ) for air flow....See MoreHU-625844332
