Building an interior transom window over French Door - How to? XP
Comments (4)Do you want a sash holding individual panes, or just a sheet of glass held in place by moulding? For the latter, one initially trims as for a cased opening, then applies a set of stops to one side, measures and procures the glass, then installs by applying another set of stop mouldings to retain the glass. Nail carefully! Casey...See MoreHow to treat this small bathroom window?
Comments (38)After reading all the responses it seems people are split between recommending shutters and roman blinds (cloth coverings in general). I have plantation blinds throughout my home and they give a very clean look that I like. I have not noticed that they block light. I also have not noticed my bathroom blinds collecting more gunk. It also could be that we do clean them regularly. Just a weekly wipe down keeps it all at bay. Having said that, your bathroom looks so serene and lovely. I can only imagine how beautiful the rest of your house is and I am anxious to see more of it as you decorate it (hint, hint)!! Enjoy your decorating!!...See Morestained glass window over bed?
Comments (8)It’s really more of a window treatment (or lack there of) and proportion decision. Typically, you wouldn’t want to cover that type of a window with any coverings so are you ok with early morning sun streaming in that window? Privacy shouldn’t be a concern? Typically the transom would be high up (your bed obviously low down) - but what about the headboard? If it’s lower as well and that creates a big void below the new window then I question just the overall look. You’d have to sketch it all out to scale to see if the proportions work....See MoreWindow treatments for awkward, over-the-bed transom window
Comments (9)I would not spend the money to get customized Roman blinds for that window unless you really like the shape of the window and want to highlight it. Just get regular blinds and have them mounted on a board at the top of the window to compensate for the thickness of the trim. It will obscure the shape on the top, but will give you good light control. You could get a pretty print. You could do the same with Venetian blinds. I like Venetian blinds for the bedroom, because you can open the slats to get in light and people can't see into your room, whereas a Roman shade has to be opened wide to get in light. One last thought. I have never had a headboard for my bed. But I have had a quilt hung on the wall over my bed for years. (It is a piece of art.) I've never had a problem. So if you allow a couple of inches between the wall the the curtains, it might work for you....See Morecyn427 (z. 7, N. VA)
