is this a watering issue or something else?
Comments (5)to put it another way ... NEVER... ever ... 'FEED' AN ALREADY STRESSED PLANT ... For ALL WE KNOW.. YOU BURNED ROOTS IN HIGH HEAT.. WITH TOO MUCH FERT ... oops.. roots that were already suffering from something else ... as per above ... so.. newbie .. fert once in spring ... and put that thought out of your head.. as a remedy for anything ... you will be further ahead.. if this fall after you clean out the garden.. you add 6 to 8 inches of COMPOST.. and turn it into your soil.. so that by spring.. you wont even need to use fertilizer then ... and perhaps a soil test.. to see what, if anything, your soil is missing.. would be a great place to start.. if you havent done so already ... build the soil.. insert plants.. add water and sun.. and you should just about NEVER need fertilizer ... it is NOT a remedy for anything .. in a good soil ... ken ps: i hope you know about crop rotation ... some things simply can not go back in the same place year after year.. but if you build the soil then maybe they can .......See MoreToo Much Water, Too Little Water or Something Else
Comments (35)thanks jack, I plan on aerating this fall and de-thatching to remove any dead brown material next spring. The lawn is very thick and weed free. Even though most of the dollar spot is in a full sun area; the large amount of rain we received this spring and some poor judgment on my part with over watering (never had an irrigation system before) provide a rich environment for the dollar spot. I am hoping changes to my lawn care system will alleviate the problem next spring. I am trying to understand the proper timing to water. i.e. when the grass appearance indicates it needs water, screw driver insertion test etc. I also plan on completing a soil betterment program this growing season that Morph had suggested based on a Logan Lab's Soil Test result. Along with supplementing the program with Milorganite in early September....See MoreMore Confusion from Too Much-Too Little Water or Something Else Link
Comments (112)gle- My lawn came out ok enough....it's green, fungus gone, no weeds, over-seeded in early Sept.... My last thing to do this year is apply fertilizer late October/early November. Then starting next year, I'm going to try to follow this: http://forums2.gardenweb.com/discussions/4826669/a-yearly-guide-for-cool-season-grasses-from-rutgers to the letter and see how I make out. We're supposed to get a harsh winter in the northeast so let's see how that goes....See MorePlease Help: Air Handler Drain Pipe? Or Something Else?
Comments (8)Condensate drains in my area are typically run into the household plumbing so the drain water isn't seen. A secondary drain for the safety pan SuburbanMD mentions that's beneath the air handler is run to a visible location as a signal to the homeowner that water dripping from it means the primary drain is clogged and service attention is needed. James Mason, if those two drains are primary and secondary a/c condensate drains, you need to identify which is the secondary to be aware that it shouldn't drip unless there's a problem. You may need to check with the system installer for that information....See MoreLindsay S
