Geez! Art mimics real life. We just watched the movie with Bruce Willis, "Death Wish". 17 so far have been killed this year in Chicago.

Life imitates art because there is a movie about murders and there were actual murders in Chicago?

I will not watch videos of intentional violence.

I explained twice that she was reported killed. But much later were saying she is barely holding on. Apparently they were able to resuscitate her. Which would mean that she was killed but they were able to resuscitate. I can't imagine how they managed that. Poor lady.

With things as crazy as they are these days it could be something as nuts as someone thought she was making too much noise that early in the morning. Or that she had previously had garage sales and this was just too many. Who knows! It definitely looked like she was in a nightgown and robe. She must live in the area you would think.

To me, death caused by gunshot wounds = killed = dead. If she was "resuscitated", she wasn't dead. Also, hadn't been killed. They talk about "What was the cause of death?" If the injured person is still alive, there was no death and so there is no cause of death.

mathias....this is sooooo "unreal"....so abominable...to me...it's like right out of an insane movie....like fiction. This reads like a movie script. I can't believe it really happened....and yet it did happen. Sooooooooooooo crazy! (In the movie they kept referring to deaths in Chicago...to make the script seem plausable)

We live in a crazy world. I hope the lady survives and maybe she’ll remember enough to help the police catch this lunatic. And then I hope the shooter gets imprisoned for the rest of her life.

"Garage Sale" is irrelevant. From what was related here, one woman wanted to kill another woman, and almost did. This wasn't a 'drive by' or some 'gang initiation'. One woman was targeted by another. Sounds like 'jealous rage', period.

What on EARTH does gang violence in the inner city of Chicago have to do with this incident? Nothing, beyond the easy access to guns.

She died. 29 years old. This is just horrible.

Oh so terrible! Prayers for comfort and strength for her family. Since the shooter was in her nightwear, maybe she was irate if she was woken...but certainly no excuse!

It's hard for me to wrap my head around this sad event. It raised many questions of "why" did it happen and there were no details that supplied a hint of answers. I do hope the shooter is caught.

She is definitely dead. So sad. I honestly don't know how they ever revived her. I feel so bad for the family. Under 30 years old. I feel sure they will find her killer quickly because they have found more videos of her truck which are very clear. Some one knows that woman. I pray it is quick.

You know, in this day and age, she could have been killed because she told the woman "no early birds"...seriously! I think people have lost their minds! Surely they will find her with the video footage!

Perhaps the husband can shed some light on this as to who might have a motive.

Just a guess, that a lot of expensive care was administered and the insurance company refused to pay for any care given to someone who was already dead.

Since most shootings are not random but are done by someone that the shot person knows this woman should be found fairly quickly unless she decides to turn herself in.

Just did an internet search, and didn't see any updates. Hope they get the person responsible quickly.

I think the killer must have some personal connection with the victim. I know you see people shopping at WalMart in their nightwear but I wouldn’t think you’d go garage saling in your nightie.

Plus nighties don’t have pockets so the gun must have been carried in on purpose.

I read on one news report that this happened just about 4 minutes after her husband left to go to work. I can't help but think that this is a clue. If I were an investigator on the case, I would first find out if either was having an affair. My first thought is a jealous wife of someone that she may have been seeing. Jealously is a very good motive for murder!

There's a lot of people speculating about that. Either he has a mad mistress or she has a pissed wife. But it's all just guessing at this point. They have a go fund me account to raise money for an investigation. I really am surprised that nothing has been uncovered at all or nothing they are releasing.

I don't think the shooter was wearing a nightie. The young woman and her DH were very active in a Star Wars fandom/group/club/cosplay thing. While these types of groups/cultures are generally harmless and full of good people they do draw certain types of people with "issues".

I think the shooter was wearing a costume, not a nightie. Perhaps she perceived the victim as a rival in characterization ( prettier, more popular Princess Leia or something) or maybe the shooter took offense to the victim selling some memorabilia that she coveted. Or maybe she was rejected by the group. But I think the authorities should definitely be looking into the connection with their cosplay activity.

Another report from the memorial. The husband seems very very sad and tearful. As do her parents and his mother.

They need to have the stills of the truck and the shooter posted at the news sites so that maybe someone would recognize the shooter!

If this were a mystery novel, I would say it was the wife of a man she was having an affair with. Either she just found out about the affair or learned the woman's name. Still in her nightgown she flew out of the house in a blind rage and committed the murder. To do so outdoors in broad daylight tells me it was impulsive, rage fueled. She didn't even think of getting dressed, possible witnesses or concealing her vehicle. Somebody knows who this man was and who his wife is.

I agree with that line of reasoning Elizabeth! I have been on that end of an affair. I didn't kill anyone but I was in a fit of rage when I found out! If just a bit less stable, I could have seen myself doing something like this. In my case, I did not know who the woman was though so that helped keep her safe from harm too! Back in those days, we didn't have social media or cell phones to find out secrets!

Or someone with severe psychiatric problems. Or someone on meth or other drugs that severely impair judgment.

Do they know for certain it was a woman that shot her? I think it may have been a male.

I don’t think an affair is in the picture and even though I’m sure it’s said without any malice, I don’t think that kind of talk is very helpful or kind. There’s a huge difference between the story in a mystery novel and real life. To imply or suggest she or even he was having an affair and that’s why she was killed IMO puts an undeserved shadow on the victim and her spouse. There are lots of scenarios that could be the driving factor, and for all we know it could have even been a case of mistaken identity.

Like every other gun victim incident, it's a sad, needless tragedy that this woman's fellow citizens will do nothing to prevent. That's even sadder to me.

I agree with half of watchme's comment. I think many people who participate in "fandom/group/club/cosplay" activities tend to be pretty strange and not always well adjusted to life as adults.

Why do you say that, Elmer? I know probably dozens of people who participate in cosplay, etc. and they are all normal, successful adults. DH works for a huge gaming company where cosplay is embraced and celebrated.

Why? Based on those I know and know of who are so involved. I know and have known many in the game business, including creative, management, and technical types, and worked with MANY such companies. It's a world of fantasy, creativity and imagination, make believe. The escape and make-believe play is appropriate for children but for me less so for adults other than for Halloween (my opinion). There are some normal people to be found in these places but also many childish (not child-like) Peter Pan-like (I don't want to grow up) goofballs.

I agree with that actually, except I see fantasy, creativity and imagination as a positive! It's such a fun culture to be around. But I also play a lot of video games and enjoy escaping to and exploring those worlds.

The gaming people are of all different types and while some do it only for entertainment others it becomes their life. For the second set the game is the reality.

Since this appears to be a targeted shooting they either knew, knew of, or were connected in some way. Not random by any means.

One of the links above showed a video of a memorial gathering of family and friends. Dozens were holding Star Wars-esque light sabers.

Do you have your own light saber ready for the next memorial service you need to go to? I don't, I guess that's another personal shortcoming I have.

They are now offering a $20,000 reward for any information leading to the arrest of the killer. The truck has been identified as a Nissan Frontier with crew cab, I think it's black, definitely very dark. I am hoping with the increase in rewards someone will be talking. When I saw the post back on top, I was hoping it was that they’d found the person responsible. Cute pics. She had her whole life in front of her...it’s an incredibly sad story.

Regarding the light sabers. They had announced on the news that anyone who was going to the memorial and had one should bring it, in place of holding candles. Which is why there were so many.

Some of you seem to have consistent reading comprehension problems, you read what you want to see, not what's written. I won't dignify the comments by explaining what was said before that you've apparently failed to understand.
