Need help with small laundry room layout
Comments (4)It's not clear to me how two non-matching machines could be stacked. Nor would I recommend running a counter over 3 different heights. Just not practical and it will look awful. If you are looking to remove and replace everything that's one conversation. If it's a question of making do with what's there then I'd leave it alone. I know in my laundry room I need some hanging/drying space which seems to be lacking. In the end, whether you plan to replace washer/dryer and lose some upper cabinets seems to be the issue....See MoreNeed laundry room cabinet layout help
Comments (3)Build a pull-out ironing board into a ceiling-height cabinet next to the washer. In the same cabinet plan storage for laundry soap, dryer sheets, your iron, etc. Next to the dryer extend the counter all the way to the wall. Use the space beneath for a pull-out for a garbage can and a basket to toss stuff that needs to be dry cleaned or hand washed. You could install low drawers right under the counter, handy for tossing stuff found in pockets, basic tools, mismatched socks...Above the counter you could do closed storage if needed, or an open shelf to store laundry baskets. On the wall by the entrance door install a retractable clothes drying rack or two, depending on the space available. They are amazing. I have a heavy duty metal one and I found jumbo plastic clothespins that work with it, so I can hang a full load on it and it only takes up a few square feet when extended, almost nothing at all when pushed in. Plan for a full size utility sink with a cupboard base, goose neck pulldown faucet, and a foot or two of counter on each side. (Remeber to leave enough room between the left side of the sink counter and the garbage cab for the drawer to pull out. Or just skip the pullout and have it open underneath if that doesn't bother you.) The first time you have to wash a big bucket or soak a desperately stained piece of clothing you'll be glad for the extra volume. Again, closed or open storage above the sink....See MoreNeed help with layout of laundry and powder room
Comments (4)The overall layout feels like we are wasting space. The architect gave us his best with this layout. He basically changed the shower to a linen closet and moved the door to the area to be centered versus more to the left as it is now. Another thing we are not aligned with. We don‘t have to add the new window as marked on the plans. Would I be better off removing all the details and asking for layout help with a blank rectangle? Current window stays in place. I‘d like to believe there is a better layout than what we have. Thank you....See MoreLaundry Room layout-Need Help.
Comments (11)bpath, Thanks for your comments. The reason the tall cabinet is in between the washer and dryer is for ease of putting the dirty clothes in the washer. The washer is on the left (door hinges on the right) and the dryer on the right. There is a drawer (shelf) that pulls out to put the laundry basket on to transfer the wet clothes to the dryer. I will have a large sewing room for ironing. I will have some cleaning supplies and other things in the laundry room. I will also have a storage room for larger items and a furnace and mudroom. Thanks again...See More12building34
