Laundry Room Design Dilemma

help me design my mud room/laundry room

I just can't get a good visual on how to set up this massive mudroom/laundry room.

I want our washer dryer stacked, and I have a vintage 54' double drain board sink that I'll be putting on a new cabinet base. We have 4 kids, 3 of them boys active in sports year round, we live in Alaska, so we have tons of gear, to store yet want cubbies/lockers for each kid to keep their day to day gear organized. Ideally I'd like the washer/dryer on the opposite wall that it is shown in the plan.

the barn door shown is no longer, it will be a 2 way swinging hinged door

room dimensions are 15' 1/2" x 10' 8"

It's going to be really hard to get comments with the plan you have posted - it's just so hard to read. Sorry. That said I just organized our mudroom and found Ikea's PAX perfect for the job. This one is a 39-3/8" unit. I also put another one in our closet with 29 and 19 inch units in different depths to handle cleaning supplies, overflow clothing items and the kitty litter box. I'm assuming you can get IKEA delivered to Alaska? FYI, the bins are Bigso boxes from the Container store and fit perfectly 3 across. There are some ikea sells but they are much more flimsy and don't look as nice.

I think I would rob some square footage from the hall closet and turn it into a walk in shower in the mud room I would add hooks and drying racks for all the wet stuff, boots, rain gear, umbrellas, waders, snow suits etc... You can also pop a kid or a dog in there pretty easy for a quick fix if needed. I put a narrow rack on the wall for dry shoes and boots.

4 lockers on outside door wall, be sure to have drawers for hats, gloves, scarves, glasses, goggles, ear protection etc... also have room in upper cubbies for helmets and ball caps etc..

I put in your stacked wash/dry and the 4'4" double drain board sink next to it. I would probably add a fold up/down shelf next to the wash dry for folding (on the outside of the shower wall).

I only had the measurements you gave and no idea which wall is which or how wide the doors and closet outside etc were so this is just a rough draft...

We're in the process of doing our laundry room. My hope is to make it as efficient as possible so that I can be in and out as quickly as possible. I'll tell you about our plans...maybe it will give you some ideas for your space. We're going to use a combination of Ikea kitchen cabinets and the Ikea Stolmen storage unit. I like this unit because it's modular and can be changed around with drawers, clothes bars, and shelves. Hooks can be mounted on the vertical supports. It's also very open--so that it keeps the room feeling large. Could you possibly use something like this across the front of your utility wall leaving space behind it and at the ends to leave easy access to the furnace, etc.? The unit attaches to the floor and the ceiling which allows it to be placed away from a wall. This would give you lots of storage--including hanging storage. So, anyway, this is my plan: 1. West wall--front loader washer/dryer. Ikea base cabinets with deep drawers for storing sorted loads of dirty laundry. Also, a laundry sink. Horizontal wall cabinets (with lift up doors.) 2. North Wall--large window on this wall (2nd floor laundry room.) Ikea base cabinets with doors. Space will be used to store baskets of clean laundry, or empty baskets. Family members will theoretically come retreive their baskets of clean clothes. There will be a small-drawer-mounted ironing board in this run of cabinets. Long stretch of counter will be used for folding. 3. East wall. Stolmen unit and 2 tall 15" wide pantry cabinets. One with pull outs for storage. The other to be used for broom/vacuum/ironing board storage. The Stolmen unit will have clothes-hanging bars, shelves, hooks and drawers. One drawer will be used for wrapping paper so that the folding counter can be used for wrapping. Clothes drying racks will be stored, folded up, under a window on this wall. We do a lot of air drying. I hope to have a sewing machine permanently set up in the corner for quick repairs. 4. South wall--has wall mounted drying racks that tilt out. We have all the components. I wouldn't want my sewing area to be part of the laundry or the mudroom. I can't imagine that it would be all that enjoyable to spend time there. At least not for me. Once I get going on a project, I like to spread out. I also find I need lots of natural light to be comfortable when I'm working on a project. How much light would you really have? I think it would be easier to combine the mudroom and laundry area and then incorporate long term storage if you have extra room in that area. If you like to garden, it could also be space for a utility sink and grow lights or a potting area. I'd steal an extra bedroom and have my sewing area do double duty with a guest bedroom. I have a good sized laundry room and I'm always suprised when people ask why I didn't make the extra space into my sewing area. No one ever asks why I didn't stick the DH and his computer in there! Rawketgrl I don’t think we need a shower in there, but thanks fo the idea. Thank you drawing something up, what program do you use? That’s exactly what I need is to see how things will fit but I struggle with just drawing out in graph paper, and we are doing things our self so I don’t know where to turn
