I tried the bed with two side tables at an angle, but it didn't really work. Something about the distance between the large window and wall, and the width of the bed just didn't work. I could never get the angle to where it felt comfortable to look at. It also left a huge gap in the triangular area between the headboard and walls. It caused the trunk to be just a few feet from the entrance and the pathway from the entrance into the bathroom seemed cramped and awkward. So, it will have to be near where it is now. But I'm intrigued with the suggestion that I could move the bed over to where it was partially under the window. I have been diligently trying to keep it perfectly centered between the small window and the wall, even though that means I don't get a table. Because I thought that was what one should do. I would love to have a bedside table on my side. What you don't see is a foot stool providing storage for my chapstick, water, reading material, and extra pair of socks in case my feet get cold. And shutters??!! For the love of cabbage, people, I absolutely adore shutters, but didn't think they would work in that room. Shutters!! I also found a rug in Pottery barn that combines a version of the warm reds and yellows with the cooler blues and greens. I'm liking these colors and thinking of them with lots of neutrals. I'm warming up to the idea of the cottage look with lots of whites/neutrals, but still not sure about white slipcovers and all the white. It seems like it could look like a bunch of ghosts live here and left their outfits laying around the house. Maybe I need to look at more pictures. Also, on the all white with one color thing...is it one color for the whole house or does each room get a different color? And how would you avoid people from referring to different rooms as the "Red" room or the "Yellow" room or the "Blue" room? Two other questions... Given all the doors, which I am beginning to accept must be painted or replaced (Painting furniture made from hardwoods makes me sad, but I now see that I can't leave them as they are) would some type of wainscoting be too much action for this room? This is my grandmother's iron bed that is in an upstairs guest room. Would it be a candidate for our room, or do I need wood? Or possibly something upholstered? The iron bed does accept a standard mattress, you just have to beat and shoehorn it in there. The footboard is the same, but, of course shorter. It's brass-colored with the paint flaking off and will need to be repainted. What color and style is your bedding? Any accent colors in the room? How much open floor space do you have? Room for a pretty little upholstered chair (if it won't just become a dumping ground) or a small secretary in a corner? With the cherry furniture a painted piece in black would look very nice. A floor lamp and a lower floor plant next to it and Bob's your uncle, a very nice little cozy corner. Fake ficus are a little bit predictable and IMO overdone, try a good-sized faux dieffenbachia or philodendron, or put a faux fern or ivy on an elegant plant stand. (Wrought iron, maybe?) Just make sure you keep them clean and put them in nice cachepots or urns. Every bedroom needs a wastebasket, so make it an attractive one. If the beige carpet needs some jazzing up, you can put a small area rug over it using a special pad that sticks it down to the carpet. I always liked the look of a runner on each side of the bed - they don't have to match. Thinner rugs work better than thick ones. Although some people do not like them, I like dried flowers very much, although I am probably biased because my mother makes beautiful wreaths and arrangements (which is half the reason why I have four LOL). Keep them dusted with a can of compressed air (sold at office supply stores for cleaning computers' innards) and they won't get all gunky which is one of the reasons why a lot of people dislike them. Avoid obviously-dyed flowers and stick to the natural stuff. I once had a big sheaf of dried spray roses in a wall basket - they had been a gift from a sweetheart, but crafts stores like Michaels have them quite inexpensively. White flowers turn a lovely parchment color when dried, if they have not been bleached. As for other wall decor - take a look around at some catalogs that show room scenes to get an idea of what appeals to you. Your bedroom should reflect you and your interests so that it does not appear generic. Maybe it's architectural artifacts like wrought iron, maybe it's shelves with small sculptures and natural objects, maybe it's a collection of little framed mirrors or a handmade fabric wall-hanging. If you live in earthquake country, use very good wall anchors or hangers to hold anything except a lightweight tapestry above or near your bed. "Oook" makes some excellent hangers that are available at Home Depot - they are rated for heavy weights (I always go overboard on that anyway, better too much than not enough) and have a tongue that keeps things from jumping off the hook. Use a product called QuakeHold to anchor things onto shelves so they don't fall.

Your bed is beautiful! I love your paint color and your chair works in this space. I would like to see you remove everything from the walls and all furniture except the bed, chair, dresser and bedside tables. You have the makings for an elegant, tranquil bedroom; the treadmill and the large wall-mounted digital picture frame are intruding upon that. I agree that the TV should be mounted above the dresser, and that your windows should be unobstructed. Additionally, the valences and blonds are contributing to the dated look in this room. Suggestions for you: 1. Using a corner drapery rod, add simple drapes, such as these: 2. Sheets: 3. Coverlet: 4. Pillow shams: 5. Have a bolster made for your bed in a saturated teal velvet, something like this: 6. Bedside lamps: 7. Nothing above the bed. With a TV above the dresser, your eye needs someplace to rest; I think I’d leave the rest of your walls bare (you’ll notice your pretty paint color more that way!) with the exception of one favorite framed piece - maybe the one on the wall between your TV and window. (I can’t tell you where to hand it without views of the other 2 walls)

The reason I’m not crazy about navy is, that by doing gray on bed frame, you’re in a murkier palette— or softer— compared to crisp navy. So other colors that have that same softness or grayed value will look better. So if blues , then ones that are not as crisp and cool. Unless you do more careful color palette coordination, which is possible but in my experience is hard for a lot of people. Something like using a print fabric or a range of colors In artwork. But just random solids, not so much.
