Comments (12)Acadiafun- I would do just that- sell the LG for a very discounted price and disclose the rotor issue. I have all the paperwork to go with the machine, including the repair tickets, and tell the new owners that we got 1 yr out of the first rotor, two out of the second. My main issue is trying to get it moved out of my house and have someone get some use out of it instead of going to the dump. I would sell the washer and LG gas dryer as a set, the dryer is perfect and I have no complaints, so at the very least, the new buyer would get a working washer that would last a year or two (maybe lucky and last more) and a very good dryer that would last hopefully for a long time, both at a very good, discounted price. I need to check with LG, but I was reading in my warranty booklet, that the motor parts and labor are covered for 10 years, which is why the issue is covered now. The washer has always seemed to have gotten unbalanced almost exclusively with small to medium sized loads, never with larger loads (like towels, bedding) which makes me wonder if my wash habits put more stress on the rotor because the washer is constantly trying to rebalance small loads. I wonder if someone with a larger family and larger loads might have the rotor last longer? Maybe not, but wonder how much testing LG has done into small households vs. large households using the washer and repair rates......See MoreSpeed Queen top load washer - which model?
Comments (13)A while back I saw a post about Speed Queen needing to cut the amount of water used in fills to meet government regs. I also read that there is a small lever on the back inside of the control panel that adjusts the fill volume. If I got a Speed Queen (not too soon I hope) I would want to know how to do that. Does anyone recall the instructions? This time I will print them out and save for future reference. I'm with the poster that told of how ridiculous it is for the govt. to limit water for dishwasher and washing machines while allowing unlimited water for lawns and gardens. No home in my neighborhood uses more wash water than irrigation water....See MorePairing a top load washer with a front load dryer and pedestal?
Comments (34)I didn't think I had mold either until I pulled back the rubber gasket and took a look. Then what I found there and inside the detergent dispenser was beyond disgusting. I have always left the door open all the way since it was brand new. Now I also leave the detergent dispenser open and I still get mold. It's impossible to get the mold out of the gasket so I will need to get a new one for about $300. It's difficult to get your arm in the dispenser socket to clean as well. This washer/dryer I was told to be one of the best front loaders by 4 different mom and pop appliance stores (Electrolux) and I 've had 5 service calls in 5 years and my husband and I are empty nesters. My neighbor who got the Speed Queen at the same time as I got my FL has had NO service calls and she has 3 kids. I will not be replacing the gasket and instead will get a new Speed Queen top load washer and dryer. I don't need all this hassle. Photos attached....See MoreSpeed queen front load washer
Comments (4)It is often remarked here and at Automatic Washer that one would think that as expensive a washer as the SQ front loaders are, they would still have on-board water heaters. About a decade ago, it was an option. Not lately. FWIW, SQs do not have programmed electronic Automatic Temperature Controls (ATC) and there are work-arounds for controlling water temperature. The SQ FL models use a simple valve system for water temperatures. Except on the Normal/Eco cycle, "hot" is whatever arrives from the water heater, "warm" is 50/50 mix of the hot and cold water feeds, and "cold" is tap temperature from the cold water line. The "Normal/Eco program seems to be designed to be used only for Energy Star ratings and not for regular wash cycles where warm or hot temperatures might be desired. (IIRC, SQ has published that the normal/eco cycle is designed to use 88% to 100% cold water.) The work-around for getting warmer warms and hotter hots is adding a manual-overrride for temperature settings and/or the ATC "autopilot." for washers that have the progammable elecronic kind. This is done either by adding a manual mixing valve to the cold water line (so some or a lot of hot water can be metered in that way) or by inserting a cheap, small, 120v in-line, on-demand water heater between the tap and the washer's cold water input. You set the heater to whatever hot or warm temperature you want for the wash, wait 15 minutes for it to heat up, start your wash and turn the heater off after the first fill. FWIW, as indicated, this also works as a "manual temperature autopilot override" with most heaterless FL washers' electronic ATCs. as well. Many ATCs only control the temperature only by metering the feed through the hot water input line while hot water flowing through the cold input is not controlled at all. That is why, when you see posts here complaining about a new washer running very hot water when set for a cold wash, the first suggested solution is always to check to be sure that the installer hooked the hoses up correctly and did not mistakenly reverse the connection. Now, whether you like such workarounds after paying $1600 for a washer, that's a different question....See Moremamapinky0
