Slightly OT but Still Cooking Related-Favorite Le Creuset color?
Comments (41)I see you picked the Dijon - good choice! I had not seen it before and think its beautiful. (I did not like the Citron) Just for comments - l I think Cobalt blue is a classic sort of kitchen accessory color because over the years country kitchens, white cabs etc. come back into style and blue looks really wonderful with that. Also "yellow" sunny walls are popular in kitchens and blue looks good with that. I have the Flame and occasionally think I'd like to switch, but then change my mind. Its classic in its own right as one of the original colors of a pretty old name in French cookware - now too trendy for being copied by Rachael Ray, Mario Batali etc. but I like the sense of tradition it gives me and I believe orange is supposed to induce hunger? (not that I need any more of that:)...See MoreMy very special cooking-related Christmas gift
Comments (12)I'm sorry about the link... let's try this one. The Apron Book It's very special indeed. Part of the reason for posting about it here is to honor her thoughtfulness and time she put into this gift. She has sewn some curtains and pillow covers but really doesn't care too much about sewing. And that just adds another dimension to the specialness of the gift....See MoreGift Ideas for Cooking Enthusiast??
Comments (13)ooohhhh some great ideas - thank you! He loves getting 'prizes', the family euphemism for little presents, so that's the only reason I want things instead of a gift card. We gave him some cash for a trip to San Francisco - a special good-bye with his girlfriend before he moves :( they left this morning. And I'm SURE he's going to scout out food/kitchen stores there! sueb20 - great idea! I just signed him up to get the King Arthur catalog and I forgot all about Penzy's - doh! stinky he IS quite a guy, thanks! He's grown into a man of character and heart and is a really likable, interesting person. jterrilynn I love that idea and you're so right about what space hogs colanders are. I'm sure he has at least one colander already but it was probably bought used and this will be a nice upgrade for him. lizbeth-gardener I had to laugh because he HAS an instant read thermometer, a microplane, an immersion blender, a salad spinner...... he REALLY likes to cook! But I bet he doesn't have a scale and probably doesn't have a timer so those are perfect. Baking in the desert in CA is going to be very different than baking in a high altitude rain forest in WA - he'll have to measure/weigh carefully and be on his toes with timing! alisande he actually has that same immersion blender - I had no idea they came in colors!...See MoreKitchen Related Wedding Gift Baking Question
Comments (38)LOL!!!! KD, I think the guys I'm thinking of were using their mixers for thinks like waffle batter (I just use a whisk for that), cupcakes (good Daddy), and stiff peaked eggwhites for baked omelettes. That would be an interesting thread, though. ... What's the weirdest thing you ever made in your mixer? :) Kaysd said it well--the memorable big ticket item is it exactly. Especially nowadays when they give couples the scanner gun and they pick things like spatulas, they may get a lot of matched things and stuff they need, but a couple of young recent brides I know have felt kind of let down by a lot of their gifts. Not unappreciative, but just kind of flat. They were all things off the registry, in the store's standard wrapping. No surprises, not many Wow gifts. Generous ones were more of the box full of stuff variety than the single memorable big ticket one. No clever gifties at the shower. Not many really special things for the wedding. It's all very efficient, but there aren't the warm memories. When I was in college and couldn't afford an expensive shower gift, I got some utensils and a box grater at the dime store and wired them together to make a robot. For a wedding, I'd give what I called the "crystal gift certificate". That's a small crystal (or silver, or whatever) serving piece that fit my budget, which could be easily exchanged. They never were exchanged, however. Sometimes, that was the only "fine" piece the couple got and they loved to have it. I can afford to give lovely presents now, but I try to put as much thought and effort into them as I did when I had to be clever. That's what people love and remember. It's not really about the stuff. It's about helping the new couple create a home and giving them lasting things that will bring lovely memories to them over the years as they use them....See MoreLoneJack Zn 6a, KC
