Half Load and Sanitize options in Bosch 800 series dishwasher
Comments (2)I don't know about the sanitize option. Our Bosch DW, top of the line which we bought a little over a year ago doesn't have that feature (or if it does, I never paid attention to it). But we do have the top rack only option that we've used occasionally. It uses less water (and detergent), so you can wash a small load without being wasteful. You can also combine the top rack only option with the "Opti-Miser" option which reduced the total 2-hour cycle time by about 20 minutes. Overall, we nearly always just use the regular cycle with the Opti-Miser option, which does a staisfactory job. We don't even bother with the rinse agent, because we don't see the need for it. But that might depend on local water hardness issues. It's my impression that with the top of the line machines, you can combine several options so you can zero in on exactly what you want. Our DW does not have the Miele style of flatware tray. I do not know what advantage there is, if any, to stacking flatware horizontally, but I have read elsewhere on this forum that the Miele style of flatware stacking is problematic. Our Bosch comes with a flatware holder that can be taken apart into 2 identical holders. We use only one when we use the top only option. The holder also is fitted with a top that enables you to stack each piece of flatware into its own little slot. That top is attached to the holder by hinges, so you can easily disengage it to stack larger pieces of flatware that don't fit into the slots. I think you might be able to download the owner's manual of the diswaasher you're interested in as a pdf file either from the Bosch website or from one of the on-line appliance merchant websites....See MoreWhat would you do? Comments (9)Warranties almost always exclude consequential damages (something else being damaged because the product malfunctions). Also, you didn't ask for service when you first noticed there was a problem and it might not have needed a repair because the swelling might have gone down when the problem was resolve; you waited until the damage had gotten worse. On Bosch dishwashers, I have mixed feelings at the moment. Our Bosch dishwasher stopped with a warning code that indicated a leak had been detected. It happened after the initial warranty expired but it was still covered by a parts warranty. On the positive side: When the first repair didn't work, we didn't have to pay labor for the subsequent visits. When multiple repairs didn't fix the problem, Bosch gave us a replacement dishwasher. Our model was no longer available and the one they gave us is slightly better. The old dishwasher was quiet and the new one is even quieter - I only notice it running when I stand near and listen for it. The need for repair may have been partly because we should have been using its water softener and weren't so some things got clogged with hard water deposit (we never had a problem with that with our older less fancy dishwasher). The dishwasher cleans very well and we find that the trays including the flatware tray make it very easy to load. On the negative side: Between waits for parts on multiple repair attempts and then several weeks wait to get the replacement approved, it was well over a month between the initial failure and installation of the replacement. Fortunately the service technician was able to tighten things enough to allow the old dishwasher to work on the short cycle while we waited. The low salt warning keeps coming on on the new dishwasher even though salt is loaded - the repairman is scheduled to come out again today....See MoreBosch 800 Series Dishwasher Help!
Comments (4)Extra Shine forces a 162°F sani rinse on every wash cycle - even Express - and extends the drying cycle. It's basically like selecting Sanitary and leaving the door shut for an extra couple of minutes after the cycle is done. The Auto cycle has a higher temp range than Normal so I'd probably choose Auto for everyday dishes. Your manual lists all the information on page 14 and 15. Comments (7)The difference are the ones that you stated - SHX has the bar handle, SHP is the pocket handle and SHE is the recessed handle. I did go to showrooms to checkout all three. I liked SHE because, I like the front display, you can easily tell how much longer it will take to finish. So we got that for our new house, and so far I am very happy with it. With the other two models the control is at the top and when it is closed and running you don't see the display that easily - which might be desirable just for the look - it is a sleeker look for sure. Functionality wise these models are all the same - all have 3rd rack, DBA is exactly the same. There is another model that is lower Dba (means quieter) but its not worth (IMO) the extra price....See MoreMatt
