Half Load and Sanitize options in Bosch 800 series dishwasher

I am reading the documentation for Bosch 800 series dishwashers. Among other features that I am interested in, there are "Sanitize", "Half Load" and "Cutlery Tray". None of the 2 models offered in the 800 series have both "Half Load" and "Sanitize" options, so I am trying to find out if I can do both using a different way. Here are my questions about them:

1) At what temperature and for how long are the dishes sanitized using the "Sanitize" program?

2) Can you still sanitize the dishes even though you donÂt have this program, by setting the temperature manually?

3) If you have the "Sanitize" program, can you use it in combination with any Wash Cycle? Are there any limitations? For example, if I want a "Quick" wash (like when you have guests), can I "Sanitize" too?

4) Does the "Half Load" option have specific characteristics in terms of the quantity of water used, time and temperature that makes you want it? Can you apply this option to all cycles? If you donÂt have this option, can you accomplish the same results with another cycle (like Quick Wash)?

5) Is there a separate cutlery tray in addition to the silverware basket? Where is it located? I am curious if it is anything like the one from Miele dishwashers. I saw one, and it look very interesting to have a full-width tray for the cutlery and silverware.

I don't know about the sanitize option. Our Bosch DW, top of the line which we bought a little over a year ago doesn't have that feature (or if it does, I never paid attention to it). But we do have the top rack only option that we've used occasionally. It uses less water (and detergent), so you can wash a small load without being wasteful. You can also combine the top rack only option with the "Opti-Miser" option which reduced the total 2-hour cycle time by about 20 minutes.

Overall, we nearly always just use the regular cycle with the Opti-Miser option, which does a staisfactory job. We don't even bother with the rinse agent, because we don't see the need for it. But that might depend on local water hardness issues. It's my impression that with the top of the line machines, you can combine several options so you can zero in on exactly what you want.

Our DW does not have the Miele style of flatware tray. I do not know what advantage there is, if any, to stacking flatware horizontally, but I have read elsewhere on this forum that the Miele style of flatware stacking is problematic. Our Bosch comes with a flatware holder that can be taken apart into 2 identical holders. We use only one when we use the top only option. The holder also is fitted with a top that enables you to stack each piece of flatware into its own little slot. That top is attached to the holder by hinges, so you can easily disengage it to stack larger pieces of flatware that don't fit into the slots.

I think you might be able to download the owner's manual of the diswaasher you're interested in as a pdf file either from the Bosch website or from one of the on-line appliance merchant websites.

Hello mdryja I just got my dw and I use party wash and it is shorter. I use it the most because we don't always have a full load but do need to wash because after a couple of days things get stinky. Things come out fine. I do run the water in the sink to make it hot before I start the dw. The repair man suggested that-he came to fix the first one which was changed out for this one. Haven't used the sanitize option. also just got a new washer and dryer so learning everything about these appliances is a little time consuming.

snowflake, I have the SHE58 series dishwasher. Let me try to answer your questions, though you might have better luck if you post this to the Appliances forum. 1. The rinse temp is raised to 160 F, for a period of time long enough to heat the water and maintain that temp for sanitisation, according to NSF standards. 2. On Bosch dishwashers, there is no "Sanitise" cycle. It is incorporated into the rinse cycle of the more normal to heavy programmes. My model has 5 cycles, of those 5, the "Auto", "Normal" and "Auto Super" wash cycles provide an automatic sanitising phase. While, the "Delicate/Econo" and "Quick" wash cycles do not. Also, there is no manual temp selection. The dishwasher "senses" the soil level and chooses a temp from the range within the cycle parameters. 3. I think I covered this one above. 4. "Half Load" is active in the 3 heavier cycles. It reduces at least two of the three variables you speak of, it omits at least one prerinse (on the "Auto and Regular" cycles it goes straight into the main wash), and time. I'm not sure of temp though, but I think that is maintained within the range specified in the programme. 5. Mine came with a cutlery tray that holds small knives and can also hold larger utensils that don't fit in the cutlery tray. I use it infrequently. It fits on the left side of the upper rack and works much like the fold down shelves, so you have to be careful with arrangement of things or they won't get enough spray. Perhaps the most significant difference between the Benchmark dual fuel range and the 800 series is when you use propane instead of natural gas. On both units, the heat output of the right front burner drops from 15K BTU to 13.5K BTUs, which is notable if not huge. However, on the power burner in the center, the output drops from 18K to 12.5K (yikes!) on the 800 series, yet on the Benchmark it drops only from 20K to 17K with propane. So the Benchmark gives you a very decent-- if not awesome-- power burner even with propane, while the 800 series gives you just one relatively anemic 13.5 burner as your most powerful option. Unfortunately, the $2799 Benchmark dual fuel is not a discountable item. Paying about $600 more for the extra power in just one burner doesn't sit right with me. True, the Benchmark includes a sliding oven rack and soft-close door, but those bells are irrelevant to me. So, I decided to spend a few hundred more and go with the entry-level Capital Precision all-gas range ($3,199). It got excellent reviews for performance and reliability and has four 19K burners, even with propane... and they all go down to a mere simmer. True, the oven is gas and not self-cleaning, but that's a trade off I'm OK with. Moreover, the electronic panel on the Bosch seems vulnerable being so close to the oven door and susceptible to the intense heat of a self-cleaning cycle.

I have searched all over but how does one actually use / activate the “half load” setting (or the sanitize or extra dry setting, for that matter). No matter how many resets or combination, videos or manuals, for the life of me, I can’t get any of those 3 to function with any other setting. I know there is just some simple order that I must not be following but I can’t get it to light up. It just changes from one wash mode to another.
