Comments (5)cloud swift, I'm not Linda, but this is the recipe I use, I like it a lot better than the creamy coleslaw. It has no fat, but it does have sugar. Marinated cole slaw 1 head cabbage, shredded 2 tsp salt 1 cup sugar 1/2 cup cider vinegar 1/4 cups water 1 tsp mustard seed 1 tsp celery seed 1/2 cup celery, chopped 1 medium carrots, shredded 1/2 medium sweet red pepper, diced In a large bowl, combine cabbage and salt; set stand for 2 hours. In a saucepan, combine the sugar, vinegar, water, mustard seed and celery seed. Bring to a boil over medium heat; stir until sugar is dissolved. Remove from the heat; cool completely. Drain cabbage, add the celery, carrots and peppers. Toss with dressing to coat. Cover and refrigerate for 2 hours or freeze for up to 3 months. Serve with a slotted spoon. 12 servings Nutrition Facts: 1 serving (3/4 cup) equals 105 calories, trace fat (trace saturated fat), 0 cholesterol, 262 mg sodium, 26 g carbohydrate, 2 g fiber, 1 g protein. Comments (17)It is always an adventure. We planned a family room addition and a kitchen renovation --- with a 3 year old and a 1 year old. It was a mess. The GC took out an exterior wall and put up a temporary wall that was plywood with insulation stapled to it. We set up a staging area in our living room that consisted of a fridge, table and a microwave. I put tons of canned goods on the table and many rubbermaid bins, toys underneath the table. There was very little room for the kids to play and it was stressful for me to be in the house because the baby would cry and I knew that was annoying for the workers. On the other hand, their hammering was a constant torture sound! I decided to take the kids and go visit my mom in FL for a few weeks so they could really crank it out and we'd come back to a finished project that had fallen way behind. Washing dishes in my bathroom, dealing with the constant dust, etc. made me wonder daily what I was thinking.... Anyway, we left for FL, came back and excitedly opened the door and discovered that the CG never set foot in my house when I wasn't there. GRRRR. I called him from my house(on my cell) and asked how it was going, to which he replied, "oh great." I was furious. That was the first of many problems we encountered with him. He was the worst and in the end our addition burned down the first time we turned our new gas fireplace on) and we had to start all over (when I was now 7 months pregnant. When I went into labor and was at the hospital, our roof was covered in tarps. My MIL called us at the hospital and wanted to know what to do because it was raining and the wind was blowing and the tarps were blowing off and it was raining all over our brand new beautiful cherry floors. Any way.... it can be painful, and expect inconvenience, but guess why I am on this forum now.... because I want to do it all again.... yes, we have waited 4 years. In the end, we enjoyed that kitchen and that new addition so much. I learned many many lessons --- the most important being TRUST YOUR GC, but it was all worth it. It was a product that I was so proud of every single day and we were so sad to leave that house because we had put our personal stamp on it! Good luck --- can't wait to hear about your finished product, I'm sure you will be so glad you did it....See Moreguest/baby room
Comments (13)I so agree with avoiding black-out for babies. They do not need it and if they become accustomed to it, it creates a nightmare for them and their parents when they need to get the baby/child to sleep under less than ideal conditions. Same with noise. If they are trained to sleep only when it's perfectly quiet, then good luck getting them to fall or stay asleep when they have to sleep elsewhere. Leave their door open, vacuum, empty the dishwasher, etc. They will sleep when sleepy and are more likely to stay asleep when they are used to different light and noise conditions. I have no window coverings in my bedrooms and haven't for 50+ years. I have no problem going to sleep or sleeping until noon if I want. In fact, I feel like I'm suffocating if I stay in a hotel room with blackouts that must be closed for privacy. It's all what you are used to. That said, it looks like you have plenty of room for a nice bed, even with the crib in the room. I'd consider that the grandbabies will probably sleep in the bed for their naps (and maybe overnights?) after they grow out of the crib, so I'd plan for that. If the kids will use the room as a playroom, I'd consider a pull out couch for the guest bed. They do actually make some comfy ones. You could then have more room for the kids to play. look at the CB2 Flex for style and ease. https://nymag.com/strategist/article/best-sleeper-sofas-pull-out-couches.html I'd just paint the rail the same color as the walls so it will nearly disappear....See MoreChrissy- zone6B/7A
