backsplash help

So - I really want something different but traditional/transitional. I don’t really care if arabesque is a trendy thing bc I like it ;). I need since I am the so bad at visualizing. Included pictures with natural light, kitchen lights, and kitchen and under counter lights

I went to the tile shop and this is what was suggested. I have been before and looked at a Hampton Carrara polished arabesque too. The sales people told me this one has a warmer tone and would match the Cambria Brittanica better. Thoughts ? I will add pictures of the others I have looked at.

I would not put real marble with stone that looks like marble. Plus your countertop looks to be warm & the backsplash tile is much cooler white. I would either look for a light gray arabesque or white that matches your countertop. The light gray you picked out could work. Can you get more than just two to see what they look like? Definitely not the dark gray. I feel like you have posted this before.

I think it looks very pretty together. I like the arabesque shape as well. I prefer the first grouted sample pic.

That's an awesome idea. Lots of color, texture, robust surface for grime, etc. I'd glue 'em down using a siliconized latex adhesive caulk. (Siliconized latex caulk has more adhesion than plain latex caulk, but is much more removable later than pure silicon caulk. An example is a product called White Lightning 3006) Run a generous bead on the inside half inch edge and a zig zag down the middle then press firmly against the wall, checking that they don't shift. This will hold them fine but is also removable later with care. Just make sure the back sides are clean, for the adhesion.

I think doing a mix of different white tiles, or a mix of gloss and matte tiles might be easier to harmonize with the other two whites than having an expanse of a single white in the backsplash. These ideas are from Heath Ceramics. A mix of Heath's canvas white and vanilla bean. I don't know if I like this pattern for you, but I like the color mix. This is a dual-glazed tile; part of the tile is glossy and part is matte (I don't know if anyone but Heath does this, but you could mix gloss and matte tiles from someone else for a similar effect)

It looks like the stuff one would use on a fireplace or even the exterior of a home--look for stone veneer. Then take a sample home and lean it up behind the stove and see if it gets gross and if so, if it can be cleaned.

Lovely kitchen! I like the Siberian pearl better than the carrera with your countertop. It does seem to pick up the grays in our countertop better. You do need to look at them on the plane they will be installed. If you can do a mock-up board with the other tile and set it up perpendicular to the countertop, that’s the best way to view it.

Yes - I have and I just can’t find the right backsplash. The pic that has the grouted sample is one suggested to me today by the TileShop. I think I bypassed it bc it has some flecks if brown in it. But , now it doesn’t seem too bad. It does seem to work better than the other I have laying next to the small sample with only 2 tile pieces.

I wish I could get more of that tile - Maybe I can order a bigger sample. That one is not from the tile shop. it’s from Prosource.

Would all of these work ok ? If they all work ok - the. i can just pick the one I like the most.

The small arabesque with only 2 tiles - I am ordering that in darker gray to put around my fireplace. I fell in love with this tile before I selected anything and was determined to use it. The sunlight will hit just perfectly. I would love to use this in the kitchen but afraid it would be too dark.

Oh and mark_rachel - I didn’t see you posted a picture.
I did also look at a ceramic gray beveled arabesque and it looks pretty good. Just looks too plain

Beth has given me some suggestions.
This was one I ordered based on her suggestions - forgot I had this one. Wish it was gray. I was afraid it would be to white - it’s a brighter white than my cabinets. I do love this one too .

do these have sheen? I would do something with hardware with some shine, and get some matching sheen on your backsplash. Can't tell how much sheen these samples have...Your cabinet style and space with the hood is more formal and some sheen will play it up and you should. It is really special. No don't put a matte tile here. If you like the arabesque shape, find one that is glossy, white, and tweak the grout color a bit. Basic, but with some elegance is what is calling out. The first board you show is a nice selection, but too somber/muted for yours. Other patterns to look at : chevron/herringbone.

Your first photo with grout looks wonderful :) Keep in mind that all of those tiny flecks and details disappear some once you have a full back splash and everything in the kitchen gets attention. Choose something that works with the whole picture.

We love the grouted arabesque as well. It looks great with your kitchen. Though there are plenty of arabesque tiles. A turquoise color would look wonderful as well if you wanted some color.

Thinking it over this weekend. Met with a designer and she thinks the smoked glass arabesque would be fine but after hearing me out - she suggested this white tulip glass tile.
Brought sample home this weekend and looks like this is what we are

Just make sure your installer knows to use white thinset to install & knows how to work with glass.

@mark_rachel I mentioned my concern with using white glass tiles and they assure me they knew how to install. Well - my white tiles do not look white :(.

But it doesn’t look too bad. I guess I should have brought it up sooner .

What would you do?

I am following this bc I am using Britannica too and need to pick something very soon! What color are your cabinets? I’m going with SW Snowbound. This is very stressful!!

I don’t know the best color match with Sherwin Williams. It’s a color made for the company I ordered from and it’s called SnowDrift. Here is a pic compared to computer printer paper.

I love the way it looks with Brittanica.

It’s not bad, but I understand that it’s not exactly what you had in mind. Are you just going to keep it? Changing your under counter lighting to a warmer color might help. Your lighting in your upper cabinets is very warm, so that might help even it.

Britannica people! Could you check to see if this backsplash will go? My cabinets will be SW Snowbound. This herringbone will go behind my stove to the top of the cabinets. Which one?

Here is the kitchen I’m renovating. We just bought the house. Taking down that bar on the left to make a level counter that will be 55 inches across.

I like the herringbone.

(I am really wishing I would have gone with the Siberian pearl arabesque or just not used white glass tile and keep looking)
