Patio door height for 9' ceiling master bedroom
Comments (2)Definitely the 6'8 or a 7'. An 8' will leave you very little room between the moulding and ceiling. You have to factor trim around the doors into the equation as well. Is this a traditional or contemporary build? If you hang window treatments (i.e., drapes), they need to be hung just below the molding, or so the experts say :) This enlongates the windows and looks great. There are some differing rules if you are doing a valance and have higher than 9' ceilings, but with 9' you should hang below the molding for sure. As far as the 10' patio door - hard to say without a plan. I love the idea of a wall of windows, but would have to see it in plan form to see what other space you have. I must say though we were at the Wynn in Vegas a few years ago and one of my favorite things was the wall of windows across from the bed (the curtains were on remote!). Beautiful view and if you have this it might work great!...See MorePlease help me decide how high to hang the drapes
Comments (44)I like to follow the rule of thirds. It is aesthetically pleasing. However, in this situation, I'm trying to figure out if the 1/3 point is the rod itself or the distance from the top of the panel to the ceiling. The difference is not that great, but could, I suppose, throw things off. Let me see if I can explain what I'm talking about. The distance between the top of the window casing and the ceiling is 14". One third of that is 4.66". The distance from the floor to the top of the window casing is 80". If I use the 84" panels and allow for about 1/2" clearance at the bottom, the top of the panel would be about 4 1/2" from the ceiling. BUT, if I want the rod to be 4 1/2" from the ceiling, then I need to purchase the 95" panels and shorten them and the top of the panel ends up about 6 1/2" from the ceiling! Does this make any sense? WWYD??? Now, let me show you what I think I'm going to use for the rod. Does it blend in with the wall enough? And which of these two colors do you think I should use? The one draped over the sofa is SAND and the other that I didn't bother to unfold from the way it was packaged (sorry about that) is IVORY. If you'd like to see the IVORY opened up, I can do that. SO MANY DECISIONS! I don't know why my pictures are larger than usual. I swear I resized them the same as all the others. Sorry....See MoreHelp! High Ceiling Living/Family Room Everything!
Comments (121)Hi, Nicole-- Just a quick reminder that if you do plan to actually close these drapes for light blocking for daytime TV viewing (depending on light angles), you'll want to make sure that any panel you select is blackout-lined, and, as groveraxle mentions, attached with rings so you can easily operate them from ground level. Grommet panels and pole-pocket drapes are much less obliging, especially at longer lengths like you'll need, and seams/cuts wear much faster from normal open-close activity on the rod....See MoreStaining Different Woods - Exterior Doors, Garage Door, Patio Ceiling
Comments (4)Thanks for the feedback. I believe I can find the back door and the garage door in the same wood species (they are right next to one another). I've been told that, with some effort, we can get the patio ceiling (likely pine) to stain close (but not exact) to the garage/back doors. Unfortunately, the front door we like is only available in Mahogany. The only variable that is near the front door is the front porch patio ceiling (again, likely going to be pine). I'm wondering with a lot of experimentation if we can get the Front Door (Mahogany) to stain close to the pine ceiling? Of course, all of this would be much easier if I could just find a single wood species that is readily available on doors, garage doors and tongue/groove planks??? Thanks again for your comment. I will consider painting the ceiling boards if we can make them match....See MoreCelery. Visualization, Rendering images
