That's a gorgeous sputnik light, but it seems way too modern for your traditional space. Not sure what other way your taste could run, so there could be a million suggestions people could make, but what about something like this for the dining room? If you have another choice, then we could make suggestions for pendants. These have a little more of a nod to traditional:

I do agree with Olychick though - the kitchen is very traditional so I'm not sure you can get away with something leaning so far modern. I don't think you have to go as foofy/ornate as the previous owners did - but I don't think you can do super sleek either. I think you're going to have to try and find some kind of happy medium. Groveraxle always has great suggestions, hopefully she (or someone like her - a pro) will weigh in and help find you something you love, but will also work in the space as it currently exists.

Thank you all for your insights and mock-ups! Those are extremely helpful. I love that silver chandelier Olychick - where is that from?. We haven't purchased a kitchen table or stools yet, I'm kind of just looking for inspiration on how to make the room less "traditional"-looking.
