Help me finish formal living and dining rooms (on a budget)
Comments (13)@betsy Cain I tend to have a traditional/transitional style. They don’t have to be super formal rooms, as the rest of the house has a more relaxed feel, and of course the farmhouse style dining table isn’t “formal”. for now, I think the chaise needs to stay in this room. The only other place it could go is the also empty sun room and I don’t really think it fits there Any better. My husband actually likes the thing and enjoys laying on occasionally. Additionally I have no other furniture to put In its place! We moved into this house last fall and added about 1500-1800 sq ft of “growing space” so we knew we’d have to furnish slowly and with some hand me downs....See MoreHelp! Comments (7)In your first picture the walls are light and in the second they are red and green. I think painting the ceiling white and the walls (upper and lower) a light color would help. I would take out the "fussy" things...scounces, and ceiling medallion, A larger rug would update your room. Love the glass table and would like to see a centerpiece or runner on it. Nice room....See MoreWhat paint color to choose for my walls in formal living and dining?
Comments (5)Combining emerald green and gray is tricky, and then it also appears you have beige carpet, golden beige shades and yellows in the rug. I think you can make the rooms work if you paint all the walls a neutral white - White Dove was a good suggestion. First, remove all your extra colored pillows and the rug so you are looking at the room with just the two main colors you need to coordinate with (the sofas). Put your extra green pillows on the gray sofa. Maybe you can use your gray/yellow rug under the dining table instead. I would replace the mirror on the dining room wall with large artwork that brings in the deep greens of the sofa to help coordinate the rooms....See MoreHelp! Should I paint formal dining chairs white or dining table???
Comments (22)I agree with the above to not paint them. And "brown" furniture is trending again. :) I like your seat covers. I think it feels heavy to you because every piece in the room is formal. Maybe mix in a more contemporary chandelier, a mirror or abstract art instead of the large painting over your buffet, and a different rug. You can find real turkish rugs on etsy for a very reasonable price. Or a seagrass would look nice too. (Seagrass can be cleaned with water/liquid products, stay away from jute and sisal in the dining groom.) Simplify the sconces and centerpiece, and have nothing on the table or else a simple something in the center--no dishes or tablecloth. This room is similar to yours. Real rug with contrasting orangey colors, living flowers, mirror. This one has antique but simplified lighting, one simple centerpiece, mirror....See MoreFlo Mangan
