Electrolux range hood -was this a mistake?
Comments (4)Great, thanks for your responses so far! I feel better already. I'm very excited to have anything other than the microhood! I just assumed that the Electrolux hood would be quite a bit more than it was, so when I saw the $850 price tag I was actually pleasantly surprised, so we just went ahead with it. We got our Samsung refrigerator from the "scratch & dent" aisle (we looked at this refrigerator 2 days in a row, from top to bottom, and couldn't find a single scratch or dent on it). It was marked down to $1300 (originally around $2500) and the guy gave it to us for $1000. I say all that just to say that I think we're wondering if it was stupid to spend about as much on a range hood as we did on our refrigerator, but I think we just got an absolute steal on the refrigerator. Anyway, glad to hear that I didn't terribly overpsend and I'm definitely looking forward to using the new range & hood! It will get a lot of use in my kitchen. Oh to answer your question, here are some specs on the fan: 4 speeds, 600 cfm, 9 sones, 2 halogen lights, and an auto-start heat sensor. I'll attach a link for anyone who's interested. Comments (8)Just missed your last post. There’s a decent amount of variation in heights when looking at photos, but yours is the highest I’ve seen. On a 48” duel fuel I believe the minimum height from floor to the cooking surface is 36 7/8”. It can then be adjusted to 2 1/8” higher than that. Here are some specs. If it was my home, and the plumber messed up, I would be on the phone making him come back to fix it. I would not want my range that high....See MoreRange hood mounted too high? Comments (38)The fundamental issue is that fan/blower flow rates are measured in open air. The result is the zero static pressure flow rate. In a hood with filter, shape transitions, duct losses, and make-up air pressure losses, the actual flow rate is likely to be in the 200 - 300 CFM region. An 18-inch x 30-inch hood has an entry area of 3.75 square feet. At 90 CFM/sq.ft., the actual flow rate called for is ~ 340 CFM, requiring a motor rated at 500 CFM or higher, depending on myriad factors. And even if this is achieved, if the cooking plume is not entirely captured due to a smaller than needed hood aperture, there will still be grease, moisture, and odor escaping into the room....See MoreRange Hood Too High
Comments (13)It is not too high. Most recs are for 30” between the top of the cooktop and bottom of hood. When you say yours is “installed at 28.5 inches”, that was the measurement you meant, right? Between the top of cooktop and bottom of hood?...See Morejoy
