Cream/White cabs in house with golden oak '80s trim throughout?
Comments (10)This was my problem too. My KIT is open to the BR and FR and these rooms have stained trim. I really wanted an ivory kitchen, but I compromised. My new cabs have the same stain color as my old ones to tie in with the existing judges paneling. I painted the hutch and island. Could you do a combo of finishes? Can you post pictures? If people could see the KIT, they could give you better suggestions. On the right, you can see the stained paneling going into BR. The back of the kitchen leads to the DR which has painted trim, so this door has to be two toned to match each room when it is closed. The stained crown at the back of the KIT hasn't been installed yet, but it will be next to the painted crown of the hutch....See MoreWarm grays, whites, natural white oak floors

Comments (12)aohriner, lovely home! We are currently in the process of building a "period" home and have decided to use classical color schemes, instead of traditional ones (i.e., white or light trim), for the interior trim. In the past, depending on the style of the house (i.e., Regency, colonial, Victorian), painting the trim darker than the wall color would have been an acceptable thing to do. Based on the style of your house, I would think that you could get away with doing the darker trim with lighter wall color. But, I would advise that you be careful because, depending on the space and its size, it may become too overwhelming to the eye due to the room-framing tendencies that this method can have. Another thing that you may want to think about is the type of trim that you will be using. In my home, we will have quite a bit of substantial trim build-ups. So, in a sense, it is a natural progression to play them up. But, if you do not plan on doing bulky trims, it may be best to only highlight areas that are focal points, such as a window with a view or an entry or transition, with the darker trim color. I will also have some of this going on in my home in addition to monochromatic treatments where the trim and wall are all painted the same color. If you are interested in more information or ideas, definitely pick up one of Farrow and Balls books. I have two of them, and I think that the information that I gleaned from them has been better than that which I have found in books by domestic authors in regards to this subject. hth....See MoreManila Oak vs Calypso Oak COREtec vinyl plank flooring
Comments (3)I am having the same dilemna! We have to replace the flooring in our tiny vacation rental condo. I definitely want Coretec, but I'm having a hard time deciding between these two. I love the simplicity and elegance of the Calypso Oak, but worry that it will turn out too light. The Manila has such beautiful depth, but I'm afraid it might pull too much orange. All the photos of installed Calypso give the caveat that it is much lighter in reality. Too bad, because I love the way it looks in pics. I am also worried that Manila might be a bit busy. We bought our condo furnished and the sofa is staying. It is a queen sleeper, but it is patterned and in a darker color. Unfortunately I can't buy a box and try them both out since we have to have the installation done in a couple of weeks in between renters and we won't be there until the actual work begins. Also, the unit is pet friendly and I worry that paw prints might show up more easily in between housekeeping. Wish I could find something inbetween these two colors....See MoreLinda Joyce
