The truth is that you do not use the crib set for all that long. My kiddos were into twin beds by the time they were 18 months and a year! LOL They didn't like being confined in the crib. Unless you wash the stuff to death (I know it will need washed but it's HOW you wash it), it will last for the time you need it to, even if your kids stay in the crib longer than mine. I didn't buy a whole set either time. I mixed and matched items from different stores and sets to get the look I wanted. That way you can add in different colors and designs without being limited. Think out of the box. Come up with a color scheme by using other colors that will compliment the reds in the bedding and go for it! Cute set, by the way!

Great idea. I've heard places like Home Depot can match just about anything you haul in there. SW Pavestone is actually a pretty decent match to the gray'ish section of the bigger six sided patchwork pillow. I think the gray stripe in the round pillow is going to be lighter, maybe like SW Requisite Gray or BM Revere Pewter.

I totally agree with what everyone has already said. It just can't be "part Craftsman, part Farmhouse". Sort of like breeding a Cocker Spaniel with a Great Dane - you end up with a hot mess! I love the slightly industrial or vintage look of black steel windows. In fact, if I could have afforded it, I would have changed my kitchen bay to a box bay done with black steel windows. Alas, my money tree is looking pretty puny these days! What I did do, was paint the mullions/muntins of my existing bay black...but ONLY on the inside. The outside is white as are all my windows. In driving around, I'm seeing more and more people painting their exterior windows black - all on very traditional houses, mainly Cape's. Frankly, it looks ridiculous. With new windows, you are getting a factory finish so those windows will not need repainting for decades, if ever. The black exterior window fade is going to fade very quickly and then you'll be stuck. At 73 and having lived in the Midwest most of my life, I'm very familiar with what a farmhouse looks like and I've NEVER seen one with black exterior windows! Go with the simple and the pure and you won't have a dated looking house in 10-15 years. You can go trendy inside with color, easily replaceable, lower cost items.

Just wanted to circle back-- the bedding arrived early this morning and just in time as I had oral surgery today. I wanted new fluffy bedding to recover in. Unfortunately, I accidentally (not sure HOW) purchased the comforter instead of the duvet cover. It was going to be bulky and a PIA to return so I just put it on the bed. I do wish it was a duvet but I couldn't deal with it this am. The great new is I absolutely love the pattern-- it is so much prettier in person and it looks great with my grey owl walls (but most everything does). I waited to order the quilt to be sure I liked the leaf pattern-- so now that I do like it, I should order a quilt. The green velvet one will work-- the blue will not. I am also considering a pattern-- i have a few days of recovery at home so plenty of time to look around.
