Now onto bedding!
Comments (20)Actually, I only use the Metalasse quilt for my guests (I rent my house out). I'm much less forma for myself! But yes, when the quilt is on the bed, I have a blanket underneath it, which can't be seen because of the quilt. I fold the top of the quilt back and put two sets of pillows on top of it. I don't dress up my bed for myself though. In the warm months, I have on the bed only that which I sleep under. In the summer, it's a white Sferra cotton blanket or I sleep directly under a thin 100% cotton quilt; in autumn and spring, it's a wool-filled comforter with a duvet cover, a white cotton percale Lily Pulitzer from Garnet Hill for cool but not cold nights, then an LL Bean flannel duvet cover for cold nights; then for frigid (I sleep with the windows open all year unless it gets into single digits), I put the flannel covers on a down comforter and I sleep directly under the comforter, no top sheet on the bed. I'll give you what I have found to be a great tip I learned myself, though, recently. No fitted bottom sheet. I learned that hotels use flat sheets for bottom sheets and just tuck them in on all four sides. When ordering new cotton sheets for my renters, I decided to go that route and ordered a case of all flat sheets (which are huge, despite being queen, since they're made for hotels. I was nervous they wouldn't fit, since I have a deep mattress, but they do). It is SO much more comfortable because you can really pull on the sheet, get it very tight across the bed, and tuck it in. It makes an enormous difference in comfort. Back to you, I'd put under the quilt whatever bedding you need for temp and comfortable sleeping, and I'd get a cotton or wool quilt or coverlet to fold down at the end of the bed in the gray/silver (or whatever) color if you want to add color and more texture to the bed....See MoreBedding Update and more questions
Comments (19)I think I prefer layout #1. #3 is okay, but I don't typically love a bed under a window unless there isn't anywhere else to put it. Your room is quite large, so I don't think the corner layout gives you any advantage. (I once read where someone, maybe here, said something like "show me a bed angled in a corner and I'll show you someone who didn't measure their furniture before buying it." Right or wrong, now I think of that every time I see an angled bed!) I think it would be nice to have a couple of chairs at the other end of the room, if you think you would use them. Or maybe a long window seat with some storage in it. Or a desk? Or craft table? I know you're experimenting by laying out your comforter on the floor, but if you got some of those moving discs, you could quickly and easily slide your bed over to that other spot under the window to see what you think. You could even sleep there a few nights to get a feel for what it would be like. We did that in our last bedroom and it helped a ton. By the way, I also have that Soleil duvet cover. I have a collection of covers as we use just the cover with nothing inside in the summer, and I change them out a lot since we have cats that spend time on the bed. Anyway, two things....I have other Pottery Barn duvet covers that are much smoother fabric and they wash much more nicely. Straight out of the dryer they are smooth and soft, and don't have wrinkles, and they have never shrunken in size. The Soleil is kinda scratchy, and wrinkled quite a bit, even though I washed on gentle and dried on low, and removed while still a bit damp. I spent quite a bit of time smoothing out the wrinkles with my hands. Much more of an aggravation is that the cover shrunk. The pre-washed size was generously sized and perfect for our king bed. The freshly washed duvet cover is now too short on the sides. I typically LOVE my PB duvet covers, but this one, being scratchy, wrinkly and shrinky, not so much! So be careful with the washing/drying, and if you end up not liking this one, try another. I don't buy much else at PB, but I do truly like a lot of their bedding....See MoreBedding Help, Please!
Comments (19)then we have different experiences roarah that's true, with Anthropologie one can be lucky or not..I usually am. They sell different brands, so it will depend on a brand..or to some degree a type of a product..and might be a miss, so I've already educated myself of what not to get there, and what still to get. (but I didn't pay so much..one was a twin and I waited for sale..another, a queen, I found on eBay-very different price..I imagine if I payed the full price and it would start tearing like you describe, I'd bring it back to them very fast. and they'd take it back. they have pretty good customer service, I must give it to them) but I do have two totally great, very fine quality sets of bedding from them, and two or three throws..and..one throw pillow I think? and these quilts..and really, no complaint about these, and I have most of them for several years. I highly recommend OneKingsLane, Gilt, and RueLaLa as huge sources of discounted(or so they say lol) bedding..I try to go by the brand there. If I'm familiar with it. That's where I find high quality linen, and cotton, and some throws and accent pillows as well....See MoreNightstand and bedding suggestions?
Comments (3)Something like this would be pretty: https://www.mcgeeandco.com/collections/nightstands/products/josiah-double-nightstand-1 Otherwise, walnut immediately came to mind as a gorgeous choice for nightstands in your space. I think you're right to choose a neutral/textured bedding rather than patterned bedding!...See MoreRelated Professionals
