I would do all the door frames white and also the walls in the same tone. Your own ideas are very good and you're heading in the right direction. The baseboards won't look weird when you paint the trim and walls.

JudyG thanks for your input. Ha ha now you have added another choice that is beautiful. I will grab a sample of both. White do you think about the window trims? Paint white and leave window as the natural wood? OR I could paint the window black with the white trim for the modern farmhouse look. Or leave then as is? Any thoughts on the fireplace? Hmmmm, I would like the windows black if the doors were black. Is the photo above with the natural stain munitions and mullions your windows? If you are going in that direction, sure. But, if windows do not have the grilles, then paint the trim white.

I like the wood it; it goes with the style of your house. Black trim is very industrial looking in my opinion and not right for your house. I do love the idea of white for trim and a soft white for the walls...soft white as in BM Muslin or BM Swiss Coffee.... Years ago I painted all the wood trim and doors in a little Cape and I still get nightmares about painting over all that beautiful wood.

I also agree that the wood doors and wood windows look nice. The baseboards swapped for taller white ones will make it look clean and take away any dated look you are trying to avoid. The trim around the doors in white like your second example photo of white trim around doors looks nice too. The grass-cloth wallpaper gives a nice balance to the banister/railing of the upstairs balcony.

So possibly leave windows as is. Or paint just the trim. I am sure once the wall color goes up and and the white baseboards/door frames I may have a better idea. Or I will be more confused. Ha Ha. I agree I would never want to paint the doors they are in such great shape and solid wood. I imagine they are the original doors from 1982. Just changing the hardware on those. They are once of the reasons I fell in love with the home.

I think I will keep the grasscloth wallpaper. Its in great shape. The brick fireplace. I thought about painting it or white washing it white but it is so large I am thinking of leaving it as is. Still not 100% sure.

Your windows, as you have pointed out, are just trim. Paint the white. All trim a white and doors as is.

I really love the look of wood and I would keep as much of the wood as possible. Your house has lots of wood, and as best I can tell from the pictures, the woods mostly agree with each other. Your fireplace wall is mostly overall a light warm pink. Your other woods look like they have a warm tone as well. Even your dark doors have a warm brown with orange highlights. Have you thought about going warmer with the color for your walls? The wall and ceiling colors need to accent the wood beams, wood flooring, wood railings as well as the wood doors. As much as I like the modern gray/white look, I don't think grays do as much for wood as other colors. Why be tied to white trim? If you find a warm color you like, there are other colors that the paint company suggests for trim and ceiling that accent the wall color, which in turn would accent your wood. In one of our homes we did the unthinkable by experts. We stained our poplar wood trim and wood doors with a dark antique stain. It turned out very well. The wood looked antique and we received lots of compliments. Disclaimer: I'm not expert, I just know what I like.

As for the grasscloth, keep it. It will make a nice feature wall with a buffet/mirror/art/lamps on that wall. If, for some reason, the color of the grass cloth doesn’t work with the abutting new wall color, you can paint it. I had a grasscloth in my dining room for years. When I chnaged the palette, I painted it…it is just as beautiful painted.
