Paint Design Dilemma Bathrooms

Master bedroom/bath color - SW sea salt, comfort gray conundrum

I have been back and forth a million times on what color to pain our master bath - hoping someone has experience with these colors and can guide me in the right direction. I have been planning to paint our master br SW6205/Comfort Gray for quite sometime, but am having trouble making the final decision on our master bath color. I love the pictures I have seen of SW6204/Sea Salt. Being on the same color strip, would imagine it would go well with CG - however, the samples I have painted in Sea salt are VERY light. I'm worried it will be too much of a contrast and/or won't flow well with CG. Really want a relaxing, spa-like vibe for both our master bedroom & bath. Master has abundant natural light, master bath has some, but more limited. Our master bath has a full wall of shiplap oustide the walk-through shower that will be the focal point of the room - thoughts on painting this wall with color or leaving it white? In my last home my entire family room and kitchen were painted SW CG and my master bathroom was SW SS. BOTH looked very blue in that space. In my new home I had a bedroom done SWSS. In this space it looks very GREEN. Its a beautiful color but I had thought it would be more blue. These two colors are very much affected by light and by yellow light. It completely changes them. I did the master bath in this home in SW Tradewind and I love it! There are so many colors of similar character to go with. A really really pretty color is VALSPAR SEA SALT BLUE. I think you need to make sample boards and try them out and decide of you want more blue more green or more gray. Excuse the paper shades on the window but this is the Tradewind in my new bath.

Another color that was a big contender you may want to look at is SW Silver Strand.

Oh!!!! You don't know how badly I needed the positive feedback! I didn't pose that famous question "what color to use" to the forum because I wanted to wait to post pics for when it's all done. To answer your direct questions: Put the darker color behind the bed headboard and then decide if you want one accent wall (usually a lot of contrast) or if you want to have two walls each color. The Santorini Blue is not baby blue, but I would put a color swatch in your room to see how it looks in different light if you decide to go in that direction. Glass Slipper is more ice blue than baby blue. I LOVE the Santorini blue, but thought it was too dark to have on all four walls. Your bedding is very neutral and very pretty. When I look at it I think "irredesence" or opal. Everyone does this differently, but I tend to decide what I want a room to FEEL like and then go from there. For our bedroom I thought "sleeping in the clouds". Hence, I have blues, whites, creams and beige. For our bathroom I wanted "beach spa". I also suggest you look through the bathroom pictures on the bathroom forum. I found several inspirational rooms that worked with the tile and cabinets we had. I think one of the reasons you are struggling is that you are working with "what matches" instead of what look do I love. Love something, make it work in your room. Having said that, I think your tile would work well with blues, tans or many of the greiges. Whatever you decide, you are likely going to need an accent color since your bedding has wonderful texture, but only one color. Again, look at the bathroom forums pictures and here in gallary under "bathrooms". Which rooms catch your breadth or you say to yourself, "I want that feeling". Good luck!

A few people on the Home Decorating forum have used Sea Salt. You might want to post this on that forum and get their opinions. If you want to paint the bathroom a coordinating shade, SW suggests SW6203, Spare White, according to their website: Sea Salt

I would use grout paint to lighten the grout here, which would update it a bit -- if you go a bit warmer with the gray, or toward taupe, that could solve your color problem. Of course, it's also true that the wall color in a bathroom doesn't need to match the walls in the bedroom, so you could do any color scheme in here that goes with your future plans, or wait until you get around to updating this space, and stick with the pale yellow for now. White floor tile shouldn't limit your other choices much at all.

Have you seen BM Metropolitan? It's their new Color of the Year 2019. So pretty. Gray with hint of green. Photo below is from Architectural Digest.

Thanks for the comment pink_peony - you have a beautiful home! It is crazy how much sea salt is effected by light...it's looking more mint in my space and, as I mentioned, much lighter than expected. I may end up just doing comfort gray in both the bedroom & bathroom and leave the shiplap wall white to avoid the bathroom feeling too dark. Also - funny you mentioned Silverstrand - I'm using that throughout the main living areas of our house. Have you used silverstrand? Wondering how much it is effected by the light - will definitely have variations throughout the house, but wanted to keep the open/airy/coastal consistent throughout.

All of them are greatly affected by light as well as trim color. I personally have found that Anything with yellow in it changes it dramatically whether that be the white trim, the filming on windows or the color of bulb in the lighting you're using. Silvertrand is lovely and for me it went more of a gray with a hint of green. These are how the chips played out in my new bathroom when I was trying to choose. See how much more gray the Silver strand was in my space (third from right). I was positive I was going to go with Copen Blue (second from right) but then once I places them on foam boards in a larger format that looked almost foggy green compared to the Tradewind.

We used SW Silver Pointe. It looks light green/gray in our room, but like all paints it will depend on your lighting. Are the light bulbs already in your space? If not, see if you can install some so that you are testing the colors under the eventual light conditions.
