Comments (107)this is a gorgeous kitchen! More on India ink as stain: I've used it on furniture a lot. Be SURE you get permanent India ink. It has some shellac in it to make it more waterproof. It has amazing coverage. I have done an entire armchair frame with only an ounce or two. It's also very messy if you drip it, so wear old clothes and get some disposable latex gloves. It may raise the grain on some woods. Sand the wood smooth before applying it, then do a very light sanding after it's completely dry, if it feels at all rough. Apply a second coat if the sanding removes any of the color. The color is a warm black. It's opaque but the grain of the wood will show through, unlike with paint. It's a pretty unique finish. I have never used Waterlox over my ink finishes, since they were furniture. I think you do need something though--the finish doesn't seem to be super permanent even though the ink is labeled permanent. (That's more for when it's used on paper, not furniture or counters that get a lot of wear and tear.) I used beeswax on the furniture which seemed to seal the ink pretty well. I don't think I would use it on wooden chair seats, though. Too much risk of rubbing off on clothing down the road....See MoreSectional Mistake / Designing an Old Farmhouse Living Room
Comments (9)Scary with no banister on your stairs. I see a hand rail. Is that sufficient? IMO the ladder should be on the wall with the art work on it (beside the dining room) Put the TV to the left...more in the middle of the wall. Take away the end table beside it...Add a floor lamp in the corner behind your sectional and a lamp on the end table. Sheer curtains will soften your room. Is one of the end tables .. the one by the TV....low enough to be used for a coffee table? If too high, maybe look for a small ottoman or small table or stool to use, if you think you have room for it....See MoreHelp with Layout for Awkward Farmhouse Living Room
Comments (6)I like the fireplace as is, and a warm white on the walls would enhance fireplace and all of the wood.. I would go warmer than this. Benjamin Moore’s Ballet White or Swiss Coffee could be possibilities. I like BM’s Natura Line. As far as furniture placement, I think 2 seating areas. One option, instead of sofa, etc. could be a center cocktail table or ottoman with four chairs. Or if you would rather have a sofa arrangement. I would put a small scaled sofa on the wall facing windows. Small scaled sofa would go where black marker is in this view. w/ rug: https://www.roomvo.com/share/o0am4r And sofa could possibly be larger; it is difficult to estimate available space there. so I am saying small scaled to be on the safe side. And if there is to be a tv in the space, I would place it on long, low console in front of windows. Additional seating by fireplace, but I have not yet figured out what would be best there. A chair or two, I think. Perhaps a chaise....See MoreHelp! How to decorate Farmhouse/French Living Room!
Comments (19)the room is cute but it needs some life and color. Bring in some plants and art. it's hard to photoshop this angle, but I threw in some color, some texture w/the darker woven wood blinds, some greenery, a basket w/some colorful pillows, and please replace those beige sofa pillows for something w/color! down in the corner I have a color group of 4. try velvet, some cotton, whatever. as long as the colors all match, you can do diff patterns even something like these would work instead of the art between the windows, try some soft, light panels. look at the double window. it's kind of like your set up. see how they did the panel on the sides and one in the middle?? I would raise the blind up a little higher than what's shown here w/yours. but this would for sure make your one wall look put together. this is the worst photoshop ever, but see if you can imagine it but I really would look into diff window blinds. something like this offers a contrast. notice the pillows, a throw and the plant behind that sofa you really need some art. or you can do a long wood shelf like this, and stage it w/many prints. but notice that they all resemble each other. size, color, frames, simple subject matter, etc. you can do some white drapes like shown, and the bamboo blinds. love the tree in the basket. I want you do imagine if you removed every single accent item in this room. it would look like yours! you i gave you a diff style side table since everything in this room is bulky, or heavy wood. you need some delicate items to balance it out. style your mantle w/things like this...See MorePatricia Colwell Consulting
