What do you think of Olivia Rose Austin??
Comments (85)Ben, Sorry Olivia didn’t bloom a lot by 1 1/2 years. I think the 3rd year is considered the mature year, at least for own-roots. 3rd year is tge charm! Lol! My Moonlight in Paris does bloom non-stop huge flushes all the time!!!! MIP may be my best bloomer next to Walking on Sunshine. MIP has blooms all over all the time-she’s a floribunda. Plum Perfect & Kimberlina are blooming all the time all over, too! And a few bush roses like The Fairy are blooming all the time, too. @CeresMer Zone 7a NJ , I am excited to hear that your Olivia bloomed non-stop 2nd year. I think next year will be my Olivias full 2nd year-hoping for lots of blooms!!! Our weather is similar. If I have her in a sunny enough spot she will perform well! We will see! I may get another & put her in a sunnier spot! She has no BS-so she is a super winner for me! Out of my 120 roses, Olivia is one of the few with zero BS ever…. pouring rains damp soil in fall ongoing. Ok, I think Olivia is gorgeous! I have one similar that blooms kinda like Olivia, called Vicontesse Decaux, (a cross of Earth Angel & Winchester Cathedral), but Vicontesse doesn’t have as beautiful a foliage or bloom as much as Olivia....See MorePrincess Charlene de Monaco or DA Olivia Rose Austin Rose
Comments (16)I have both and I'm in zone 5, but I can't tell you about hardiness since they're both new roses for me this year. In general, I wouldn't worry about Olivia Rose being hardy in zone 5/6, since it's a rare Austin that doesn't survive that zone. Princess Charlene got my warmer spot of the yard just in case, but she looks like she has a good shot at winter survival. Like others have posted, she's already much bigger than Olivia in her first year. Not the 8' that you get in California, but she might get to chest height in a year or so which for me is really big. She's so far a middle of the bed rose, but not small like Olivia. Like others, I'm no help on fragrance, and Olivia hasn't bloomed in her first year as many of my new roses don't get that far in their first summers. Comments (13)That's reassuring to hear, Claire. She looks too delicate to be very hardy, but sounds like she can be grown in colder zones, just maybe not to the same size as in warmer zones, but that's true of almost any rose....See MoreMy Olivia Rose Austin is not blooming
Comments (9)My Olivias are grafted and they are vigorous and bloom quite a bit. So I think its just a matter of time for the own root..."first year they sleep, 2nd year, they creep, 3rd year they leap" etc..getting a grafted rose is a way to bypass all that so I try to get them if I can because I am impatient lol. Obviously there's are lots of good reason to get own roots too. depending on availability and situation. I have 2 grafted Boscobel as well. Olivia way outperforms B but B has much nicer cupped blooms. I dont think Olivia's fragrance is that great or strong. When she first came out, some people were saying she would be the replacement for Evelyn. Definitely not! I do like Olivia because she is reliable and the tree frogs like her blooms alot for some reason too....See MoreKristine LeGault 8a pnw
