I recently purchased two Magnussen bedroom sets. They have many different model lines and a few of them (Hastings, Generations and Savoy) have large 'triple dressers'. I believe the largest of these three is Hastings - it has 9 drawers and is 68' long. I'm happy with the furniture - I'd say it is a good mid range quality. They recently updated the lines and have some nice modern details. On one of the sets the nightstand has a built in 3-way dimmer and a built in 'hidden' compartment (to store iPods and cell phones) and the tall dresser has a built-in hidden compartment on each side; one for ties and belts and the other for jewelry. OK, you didn't say it was oval :) So you'll need to make a template of the top, which you'll trace to the back of the fabric and add 1/2" SA. Then you'll sew the drop onto the top, all around, put it on the table, wrong side up, and measure all around, 1/2" from the floor, making small dots, then connect the dots, adding your hem size. Don't know what kind of hem you were planning on making. Not sure what size your table is, so not sure if cutting one width in half will leave you with enough drop or not. You can add a micro cord in the seam around the table for a nice look. You'll also end up with a seam or two around the drop part. If you're going to eat on the tablecloth, you'll need to forego the pleats in the corners, or no one will be able to put their legs under the table because of the tightness. :)

Estate sales are your best bet, but it can take time (and often they only take cash, with delivery extra or not available). Ballard Designs is a company I've used occasionally for over a decade. They were recently mentioned in an interior designers article as "this is my secret place to go for well-made, stylish, moderate-priced furniture." I've bought mostly small pieces from them but been very satisfied. They have the Casa Florentina table in a variety of color washes for the pedestal base. The price is $1799, solid beechwood which I have found to be extremely fine-grained and durable. In fact, you have to like whatever color it's stained (the top, in this case, is walnut-stained) because it's said to be almost impossible to strip and re-stain beechwood by any home method. Ballard recently had a 20% off sale, which would have been $359 off the full price to bring it down within your budget. You might want to call them and find out when they're having their next sale, or at least get on their mailing list. But... when you are gathered around the dining table sharing a meal, you're seeing people eating, right? And for those who say it makes people watch themselves eat, well, I don't even know how to respond to that. If you watch yourself eat, that sounds like a personal problem to me. ;) Mirrors in the dining room can reflect chandelier and candle lighting, as well as the faces of loved ones. And those are all lovely things, so if you like mirrors in your dining room, you shouldn't hesitate to use them. Just make sure they're attractive in their own right.
