extra TV or large computer screen in kitchen?
Comments (5)I'd get a TV, as most new ones today will accept a computer output. They'll have better resolution and compatibility for TV as that sounds like what you do most. Some have a USB slot and ethernet ports so you can hook up to the network. An HDMI cable will allow you get High Def content there too. You'll need a switch of some type if you want to use one DVD player on both TV's. Usually cheaper to just get a dedicated DVD player. Best to enlist a local company or someone like Geek Squad to plot out a course of action for you based on your needs a specific equipment and access to run wires....See MoreHow large is too large for an island?
Comments (18)Width... It depends on what you plan to put in the island and what you plan to use it for. If you plan to prep in the island, you need a minimum of 36" of clear counterspace - 42" is much better. If you have a prep sink in the island, then you should have at least 12" to 18" on one side (for landing space & to minimize the chances of knocking something off the counter) and a minimum of 36" to 42" on the other side. The minimum prep sink size recommended is 15" or so interior width - 18" to 21" is better. A 15" to 17" sink will fit in an 18" sink base; an 18" to 20" in a 21" sink base; 21" in a 24" sink base. A trash pullout, if you have one, would go in the island on either side of the sink. If you have your cleanup sink in the island and plan to use the island for both prep and cleanup, then you need at least 36" on the cleanup side that includes the DW and 36" to 42" on the prep side that includes, if you have one, the trash pullout. In all cases, don't forget the 1.5" counter overhangs on the front and sides of the island. If there's no seating on the back, then the same on the back....See MoreIs this dining room mirror too small?
Comments (52)Read the entire thread again. You said: Room is too small to be a dining space. True. At least it is with that table Your health and happiness depend on using the table Okay, but what of the health and happiness of those who dine? It is claustrophobic. How does one even back up a chair? Hubby holding the mirror, barely can stand behind the chair, you can barely up on the long sides of the table . You asked if the" mirror is too small". The mirror is too small for almost any spot with the exception of a dressing table. Fact is, the only place you have room for ANYTHING is on the walls. You are determined to have art, which a mural can be. You have no window, nothing interesting on the wall. It is literally coming AT you, or a diner. You want a mirror? Fill the space. Don't worry that people can see themselves dining. It beats being stuffed into a space too small to breathe in, let alone eat. Visually enlarge the room. Go big or stay home as the saying goes CLUSTER! Five of these..........Yes, five!!!. Fill some serious space. You will end with a "mirror" that is 65.5 x 65. and the room will double visually. The chandelier will sparkle. https://www.antiquefarmhouse.com/gold-framed-window-pane-mirror.html Or ................Won.t have quite the same effect, but at least it has some bang. OTHERWISE? Hang the "man" where you are attempting the mirror, Leave the other three on their wall, with the landscape centered, and flanked by the ladies. Done. Nobody can help, because you want what you want, whatever that shall be. There you go....See MoreHelp! Living room furniture dilemma and outdated fireplace!
Comments (9)Sofa and TV - I'll have some rearranging to do! should I have a wrap around couch/ or the same sized couch with accent chairs? Fireplace - the fireplace and the built it storage on both sides of it will need updating eventually if I move the TV. the fireplace was made originally to hide tv cables and a sub-woofer (which won't be needed in the future) on one side and firewood on the other. Paint - I agree with repainting just wasn't sure where I should start with this room. Plus the paint from this wall extends above the sliding doors, top wall of the kitchen, then leads down to the basement, so we'll have a lot to repaint. Furniture - I agree, the furniture we have just feels too bulky for the space Dining table - we actually have a separate dining room which which just finished painting and I'll be redecorating soon. I can remove the table in the pictures - the previous owners had a table there so we just followed suit. We now have bar stools at the kitchen counter anyways and use that more often then the table. Should I entirely remove that light fixture in that area, or just replace it with something more simple?...See Morebargainhunter
