Fake Cancer Cures - Update
Comments (70)"In physiology I learned that everyone makes anywhere from 100,000 or so to 400,000 or so cancer cells A DAY." This is a common claim on alt med sites, but I've never seen evidence to back it up. The misunderstanding seems to relate to the fact that cells in the body are constantly wearing out, developing chromosomal defects etc. and are removed by normal body physiologic mechanisms - but these are not "cancer" cells until they start to divide uncontrollably and form a tumor. Your body doesn't need help from herbs to carry out its immune functions, few if any herbs have been found to enhance immunity in human beings, and if they did we'd have to be concerned about nonspecific hyperimmunity leading to autoimmune diseases. http://www.cancer.org/acs/groups/cid/documents/webcontent/003042-pdf.pdf "I have known many people who went to doctor after doctor who found nothing until they were so sick they were dying. This is not uncommon, unfortunately." What is the rate of cancer detection by alternative practitioners? What early detection systems do they have to rival (for example) mammography and colonoscopy in the diagnosis of breast and colon cancers?...See MoreUpdate on my Cancer Clinic Appointment on thursday

Comments (15)saitpfla--I am so sorry for your loss. Having lost two very beloved older cats, and a no-less beloved 5 month old kitten within a 4 month time span about 4 years ago, I feel your pain. I just wanted to pass on something, re: your less cuddly, and semi-feral ones. When we lost our kitten, we still had another kitten. We'd adopted her shortly after adopting the first, so they could grow up together. The kitten we'd lost was just the cutest, friendliest little thing. Our remaining kitten was gorgeous, but still quite shy (as many rescue kittens often are). Well, as time went on, this shy little kitten and I bonded so (perhaps in our grief) and she is now not only still absolutely gorgeous, but she is the biggest mush and quite the mama's girl, and an absolute nudge when she wants attention. Your other cats will never take the place of the two you lost, but you might find that they will "come around," and will bring you some comfort in the days, weeks, and months ahead. I wish you peace, and I wish you well....See MoreDouble diagnosis for my cat, both terminal
Comments (14)My suggestion is to read up on the benefits of feeding a carb-free wet food diet - a diet of dry high carb diet can be major factor in both kidney and diabetes. Yes of course you need to weigh the possibility of euthanasia, but in my experience this decision becomes much clearer once Ive exhausted all the possibilities. Correction - all the reasonable possibilties - of course none of us would want to keep a beloved kitty suffering just for our sake. FWIW, I found that my diabetic cat accepted the shots far more easily than pills. These are VERY fine needles that go into the scruff - cat does not see it and the prick feels more like a mosquito bite than the big honkin vaccination shots you get at a doctor. I tested it on myself before giving it to my boy. After a while they learn it makes them feel better and my cat would actually come to me to ask for his shot if I was running late. Check out the forum at felinediabetes.com - one of the best internet communities EVER. Truly amazing- the internet at its best. A lot of people contending w/ multiple diagnosies as well. Just one more thought. Please do not let anyone tell you you are "selfish". If your vet tells you this, I suggest you find a euathanasia specialist. Its OK and not unusual that people will find someone else for end of life issues. My dear vet must have spent an hour on the phone with me one day while I wept and tried to decide if it was time. A good vet for end of life issues realizes her job is to help the person as well as the animal client. You willl know your cat and read her signals but even then.... you may find second guessing to be part of your experience.. I will just say personally did not have the happy experience of euthanasia ... My dear vet told me that amongst her clients. about half said they acted too soon the other half said it was too late. She said very few thought it was just right. What that tells us IMHO is that second-guessing is part of the grief process for aLOT of us.... and we should go in knowing that. Best to you as you weigh all the options.l...See Moremoonie_57 (8 NC)
