Help for my Mom dealing with Dad's terminal cancer
Comments (22)Hi, Kay. Yes, she is going through all of the paperwork, and she is getting a bit overwhelmed. My dad left everything to her, and my sister-in-law, who is an accountant, is the executor of the will. She is doing most of the work, but they are waiting on the official death certificate before the house can be put in my mom's name. She can't sell until that is done. She also has to get rid of the car, since she doesn't drive, but one of my brothers needs a trade-in, and he is going to buy the car from her ( at a fair market price, of course). My dad did have his affairs in order, and all of the investments were in my mom's name anyhow, so she doesn't have too much to do. Right now she is slowly going through the house getting rid of things she won't need in an apartment. They lived in the same place for 44 years, so it's quite a big job, although in recent years they did begin to clear out a lot of junk. The biggest job is already done. My dad was into model trains, and had a huge set-up in two rooms in the basement. He had literally hundreds of cars, plus little villages, etc. He kept all of the boxes, but it still took us the better part of a week to dismantle the whole thing. The trains are going to be divided up between my brothers, and my mom didn't have to do a thing. We have been very fortunate that there have been absolutely NO arguements over money or disposing of posessions. I have heard so many stories about how a death in the family can bring out the absolute worst in people, but this is not the case for us. All of my brothers and I just want our mom to have as smooth a move as possible, and to end up with as much money as she can get. She is anxious to sell, she finds there are just too many memories in the house, and she wants a fresh start. Hopefully, she can be settled in her new place before the winter weather begins....See MoreUpdate on uterine cancer
Comments (4)Appt with the Oncologist went as good as can possibly be. I do not need any further treatment. No cancer in the 9 lymph node area that were disected. There is always a small percentage 1 or 2 percent that some of those evil cancer cells got into the blood stream (which is different from the lympathic system) but he said he is not concerned and that after no sign of cancer elsewhere - this type of cancer might develop in the cervix so hence I will be getting pap smears a lot more often - I will be considered cured after 5 yrs. I am very lucky that it was caught early. I am working hard at recooperating from the surgery. Sometimes I do too much but know when to rest....See Moremy cat has cancer
Comments (41)Laurie, so nice to see you back, and I hope you are improving healthwise, and also emotionally, I know how tiring things can be, and its good to see you back here, just try not to over-do things, one day at a time, things can get done if and when you feel strong enough. Nina, I'm saddened to hear Bentley is not doing so good, its so difficult to make that decision, I could cry for you right now. I think I have missed some comments somehow, Destiny? I have just read about her in Laurie's comment, I'm guessing she is a new addition! As for Tabitha, we had a set back, she woke up suddenly on the armchair, and I think she must have forgotten she had lost her leg, jumped straight off the chair, and unfortunately hurt her remaining leg. (despite steps, cushions etc, which she totally refuses to use) Vet said it was most likely bruised, (not broken thank the Lord) so back on cage rest she went again for another week, which is why I have not had much time to get on here. We were so upset, since she was going so well. It seems to have taken her back quite a bit, she is very very slow now, and seems to have lost some of her confidence, which may not be such a bad thing, but she has also stiffened up on her back legs from all the laying around, so I think we are in for quite a long haul to get her completely moving again. She is on joint supplements now, but vet says it will take 4-6 weeks for them to start kicking in, so, slowly goes it!! But, we thank our lucky stars she is still with us, her recent bloods were all good, and she is eating and drinking well, and does move a bit, so we'll just take it one day at a time. It is also extremely hot here at the moment, so the heat is probably making her less willing to move much. Laurie, how is Mew? Hoping he is still doing good, head bonks from us!! Nina, keep strong, and know you are in our thoughts, keep us updated, and give Bentley a huge hug from me. Take care guys, will keep you posted. x...See MoreCancer really does stink, feel free to skip
Comments (234){{{{Maddie Lee}}}} You do have a lot going on and had major surgeries. It's ok to have ups and downs. I'm so impressed with what you're able to accomplish so far in your healing in such short time. Just focus on the small things - which it seems like you're doing. Sounds like you have some awesome friends who understand not being up for things. Hope you continue to improve so you don't have to delay treatment, but even if you do it is ok as you want your body to have the best possibly chances to handle any additional trauma. How is your husband doing - if I remember he also had some health issues going on....See Morerusty_blackhaw
