Any suggestions for colors to "freshen up" 70's avocado green tub?
Comments (4)Could you post some pictures? Are you using actual true linoleum are you calling a vinyl floor linoleum? I would recommend Not reglazing it if you bathe in it. I had a tub reglazed that lasted about a month. I have bathed in successfully reglazed tubs and felt like I was sitting on something painted. Don't like it as an option at all and I would only do it if I was selling a house with a colored tub and potential buyers were complaining about it--and then let them worry about it peeling. Anyway, it would be helpful to know if you are using linoleum or vinyl and to see some pictures....See MoreLooking for ideas to open up Entryway to Kitchen/family room area
Comments (13)damiarain: We use the nook just for group milling, and often flip the counter stools that live at the kitchen peninsula over to the counter on the pony wall... this works well for parties or TV viewing or casual just-us dinners... or laying out a buffet or appetizers. But I've always thought it was a waste of space... it's not a very big area though... not big enough for furniture other than stools. But the pony wall and the multiple entrances really break up the space. We were not planning on changing kitchen layout. It works well, just needs a serious cosmetic facelift... too beige & faux-Tuscan. I prefer contemporary and clean lines. Also the travertine floor tiles are super cold in the winter. So we'll install hardwood floors that match the rest of the 1st floor. I'm trying to talk my husband into painting the cabinetry (which we'll keep) but so far he loves the wood look. The bay windows are 22" from the ground on the inside. We can't extend the FR to include some of living room. These rooms are on opposite sides of the kitchen so not contiguous at all. Did you mean the nook area? The FR is sunken because of the dropped ceiling. so it's hard to integrate with / extend into anything else. The LR is a wonderful room in the front of the house with great light... somewhat of a large formal LR which is less practical these days but it's a very sweet space that looks out onto the view. We always try to move guests into that room but everyone congregates in the kitchen/nook area! Swapping the FR and DR is an interesting idea though I think the DR is too small for a FR... it's narrow, opens up to the LR and is dark. You couldn't watch TV in there, as no wall is far enough away for viewing... my husband LOVES his TV;) But it would likely make a really nice kitchen....See MoreLandscape Layout Help for 70s Colonial in Zone 4b
Comments (5)"there is about 8' from the porch of flat ground for a new landscape design." I see an issue here that I don't think has been thought through. By removing the steps to the left of the porch, you need a new walkway across the front of the house. A comfortable walkway is going to need to be a minimum of 4' wide to not look or feel severely undersized and with a house and yard the size of yours, 5' would be better, which only leaves you with about 2'-3' of planting room if the plants won't be right up against the porch or spilling into the walkway. If you move your walkway a bit further from the house, you will need to deal with the slope, but it will give you a more reasonably sized planting bed and might improve access to the walkway if cars are ever parked in the drive. I don't know what your budget is, but this might be a situation where getting a professional on site will result in a much more useful and aesthetically pleasing solution. The current snowy photos (or in fact most photos) make it difficult to evaluate the actual grade and how the plan will need to be adjusted to accommodate the contours of your lot. If this plan is strictly DYI, you could put a 5' wide walkway close to the house and then put in a planting bed a bit further down the slope and a simple groundcover along the walkway down to the planting bed. If the planting bed is filled with relatively low plants, you will still have good sight lines to the front door and steps. Be sure to make a landing at the base of the steps up the center of the porch....See MoreIdeas on open living room and kitchen layout
Comments (8)WOW that LR is packed pretty tight with all those pieces. Could you post a to scale floor plan for the spaces that are now one ans make sure all meausrements are marked along with anything that is staying like the kitchen cabinets also all windows and doorways . Make sure all the measurements are clearly marked and info as to how many seats you need in the LR and some more pictures to make sure we see all the walls. From what I can see you have no space for seating at an overhang and so those pendants will not figure into the space. BTW I see some lighting that needs to be replaced and all the bulbs should be LEDs in 4000K to make sure all other color decisions stay true....See Moresheloveslayouts
