Blue Star Owners: Please respond to this oven door poll
Comments (29)We've had our 30" RNB for two years. The oven gets used a lot, as often as 4 times a week when my wife is baking all of our bread. During those two years we had periodic troubles with the door sticking, so I greased the hinges frequently. Finally the door stuck so hard that getting it open damaged the inner panel. Unfortunately, it was essential that it be opened, because it had our Thanksgiving food in it. That sounds grim, but Michael at Bluestar service responded promptly to my email, ordered a new door (reportedly with design fixes), kept me informed as to when to expect it to arrive, and, most importantly, came through exactly as promised. The new door was very easy to install and it works great. I can't say I was thrilled about the hinge problem, but I was very satisfied with the way that Bluestar remedied it. Apart from the hinge issue, the range remains a joy to use....See MoreBlue Star Range or change to range top ----help, please
Comments (4)If it were me, I'd go for the Bluestar rangetop (not the cooktop), and another brand's separate wall oven(s). First, because it sounds like--reading between the lines of your post--that's what you really want. Second, because the star burners on the Bluestar are awesome. Having said that, the Bluestar customer service issues and oven issues would drive me up a wall, but you'd avoid that with just having the rangetop. I think the Capital Culinarian will be great, but if you aren't going to use the oven part of the range much, why sacrifice the star burner design. Instead, get the Bluestar's burners on a rangetop, not deal with the Bluestar oven issues, and and have another brand's wall oven. Third, you could even save money by buying a less-expensive brand wall oven since you've said the oven is not as important to you....See MoreBlue Star oven takes FOREVER to get hot...
Comments (41)We are moving from a house with a lacanche volnay and much smaller oven, which i LOVE, to a new home with a 36” blue star and this heat up and large oven size is my primary concern. i picked the lacanche over blue star 12 years ago, and have never regretted it. the volnay is like a speed oven, speedy heat up, great convection and fast cooking. roast veg in 30 min for everthing. i think the burners will be fine, though the lacanche often had too much fire power. hope i like the blue star and the oven serves us well and dont have problrms with it. perhaps remind myself that the views in the new house are worth it!...See MoreQuick question on cleaning BlueStar
Comments (6)Ammonia is corrosive and has high vapor pressure. It gets into everything. Sure, it'll probably clean things. But it can also cause a lot of damage. I would feel uneasy to leave it exposed for any extended amount of time. A gas oven isn't exactly sealed in any way. Personally, I don't really give a damn what the inside of my oven cavity looks like, as long as it doesn't affect functionality or safety. I usually leave a cookie sheet on the bottom rack to catch any drips. That greatly reduces the need for cleaning. The minimal amount of splatter on the walls really doesn't bother me. Very rarely (every few years), I clean the window with oven cleaner. You can remove the oven door to do this, if you want to do this outdoors. I am sure there are others here, who always try to keep their ovens in sparkling clean condition. And they will hopefully be able to give you advice on how to do that....See MoreLaura F
