To the right of the entrance is a mudroom area. Need color for builtins and the old door too.
View from the kitchen. Need color for builtin too. I could do same as white in kitchen but it would be nice to have a color.

Master bath will need mirrors but thinking one large mirror and frame it.

Comments (21)Dig Doug, I absolutely LOVE that! I have been stumped with the straight path that I have inherited but did not know what to do. For the first time, I actually liked a path to be straight because my eyes were drawn to the sea but the garden (sorry, I cannot call it a yard even though it is - I like to have a garden). Your design widens this long narrow patch and has so much to look at. I would love to know the names of what you have planted. The tree that you see at the end on the other side of the wall is going to be cut down. It has been used just to anchor a rowboat, so I will leave a bit for them. That end wall and the dark wall on the right are made of very old Manx stone which is held together with mud. I do not want the tree to grow in case the roots damage the wall. The same with growing any tree. I want to make sure the root system is not big but I also cannot have anything high because it would then blow over. On the bottom of the picture is our 3 story townhouse, so the garden will get some shelter I hope from the howling west. Floral, you are right, IOM and yes there is going to be a problem with keeping the walls clean. They were only built about 4 months ago and they already have mildew. I don't want to grow anything on them like espalier trees or climbing plants because I will constantly be maintaining the wall. Thanks for the link! Thanks for the link Bourbon. I realised that the foot of soil on the left wall would create a problem. Someone here suggested maybe putting tall vase-shaped pots between each pillar, having darker stones on the ground or plants, the same evergreen plants in the pots and grasses on top left, but I got completely stuck because I really don't know what I am doing and it seemed so boring, hence, I am asking all of you gurus! Comments (25)This is the beginnings of a very beautiful room! That bed is absolutely stunning! I find your blue coverlet is clashing with the teal of the bed. Because the bed is the star of this room, I would use all white linens on the bed and use the blue coverlet across the bottom of the bed. The patchwork quilt I would fold and just have sitting on the bench at the base of the bed. If you have a bench, by the way, don't do the ottoman for the chair. For your ceiling light and table lamp, go with a style more current and not "pretty". And that's the same with other decor in this room. All your major elements of this room are already "pretty", if you add more "pretty" it will start to look sickingly sweet. Replace the ruffled pillow on the chair with something less "pretty". I would go with a plain cream upholstered bench to match your dresser and night stand. Let the bed be the star. 5 years agoRobin Home, are you wanting to paint all areas the same color ? Your marble ( sure it’s not quartzite? ) is gorgeous ! However it and your tile look to be more on the green side than the blue side of gray. Here is a nice neutral color, I think -

I'm in love w/your bathroom tile. what if you did a very dark green on one wall and the others in a creamy white to match the tile? If you're getting a wood vanity, it would be stunning w/gold hardware.
you could also use a midnight blue for the same effect.
some other blue/greens.

5 years agoThe top color is the SW Tempe Star (for some reason the label I inserted didn't come through! Houzz gremlins!), the bottom information is for the Farrow and Ball Stiffkey Blue. You can see the Hue Angles are substantially different, so the Stiffkey Blue is 262.480 which is definitely in the Purple Blue Hue family so it can go purple in your light. The top SW Tempe Star Hue Angle is 238.1 which is solidly in the Blue Hue family, so no purple, and it is a "warm" blue. The chroma is relatively close, meaning the depth of color is similar at 10.0 and 11.597; The lightness is 42.8 vs. 38.59 so that is pretty close. So, if you want a blue shade, go with the SW Tempe Star.

5 years agoJust for the heck of it, I looked up BM Van Deusen Blue and compared it to the SW Tempe Star. Here are the results:
Notice the Hue Angles 261 vs. 239 that means the Van Deusen Blue is more to the Purple Hue family vs the SW Tempe Star in the Blue Family. The C(chroma) is more intense in the Van Deusen Blue than the Tempe Star. So, if you want more depth of color the Van Deusen Blue is better choice. Hope this gives you some in depth information from which to make decisions.

5 years agoI really like this photo which says the paint is silver strand. Two of you mentioned this color so that is good! I’ll go get this sample now. I think that is the fan I picked for the two bunk bedrooms. Also, I have a blue that will match the blue in the tile of the bathroom. 5 years agoHI Robinhome, Houzz has been so glitchy, it's been hard to comment on anything. You have soooo many things to paint! Have you gone to Pinterest and look at colors? It's super helpful! You might want to stick with a neutral gray that is classic. Some of them lean a little blue, but are neutral.

5 years agoRobinhome, you mentioned last Thursday you did not want to go too green, but on my monitor silken pine looks like a very pale green. It is so hard to tell on monitors the true hue - or maybe you changed your mind on that line of thinking because it is so pale . In your color samples does it look different than on line ? So, if you have chosen that (silken pine - very pretty ) then for your cabinetry you would want something with more of a green hue, if not painting them white - is that right ?

5 years agoHow about a neutral beige/taupe on your walls? I have Brandy Cream in my bedroom and NEVER tire of it....just a hint of color. The below are BM paints.
