Could you fit that nightstand on the other side of the bed? It looks too small where it is now, in comparison to the bed. Also, it needs to be close to the bed and not so far

For the chandelier,,,personally I wouldn't add one since you have enough light. If you want something in the middle, try either a flush or semiflush fixture

printesa- no, the nightstand/ small chest is actually 30" wide, so it won't fit on the other side. I also felt it looked odd if not centered under the window. and the bed looked weird when we tried moving it closer to the window. It's a hard room to furnish which is why I'm struggling a bit.

Also the chandelier doesn't need to hang very far down- I saw a photo of it where the person hung it with minimal chain and it was close to the ceiling.

eta- just had a thought. maybe move the chest closer to the bed and place a lamp towards the right side which would center it in the window?

Beautiful bed. I think you can just move the end table slightly closer to the bed so it functions as a bedside table rather than for the chair. You can use a tall but narrow end table on the other side of the bed. Make sure it's the same height as the larger end table. You can find great benches in your style at Ballard Designs for the end of the bed. I would use a fabric in the same color or slightly deeper than your headboard. Either use the bench or the chair ottoman, but not both. You can also look for a bedside lamp with a blue/green base. I don't think you need a large rug in the room - you have beautiful floors, and your walkways should be clear. You could just use a smaller rug in front of the exterior door if it gets a lot of use. This bench can be ordered in lots of fabric options, including a robins egg blue velvet.

calidesign- thanks for your input! I like the bench you linked. I think that would look very nice with the headboard. I'll check out the fabrics they offer. I'll also move the chest closer to the bed.

printesa- thanks for the images. I must be overly sensitive to symmetry in my home, because the table that's off center in the photo you show looks just fine. And, you're right, I don't think I want to deal with an electrician for sconces right now. I'll look for a small table.

yes, the shutters look nice during the day, but at night I need to cover the top half of the window which is why I have the drapes. I really like the added softness in a bedroom.

What I meant was the white roman curtains when pulled up a bit will show the shutters, adding a nice touch. With the design I made, the roman shades would look best, or you can keep the existing curtains too, they may be just fine, Id have to see photos when you add the other things to the room.

This is the beginnings of a very beautiful room! That bed is absolutely stunning! I find your blue coverlet is clashing with the teal of the bed. Because the bed is the star of this room, I would use all white linens on the bed and use the blue coverlet across the bottom of the bed. The patchwork quilt I would fold and just have sitting on the bench at the base of the bed. If you have a bench, by the way, don't do the ottoman for the chair. For your ceiling light and table lamp, go with a style more current and not "pretty". And that's the same with other decor in this room. All your major elements of this room are already "pretty", if you add more "pretty" it will start to look sickingly sweet. Replace the ruffled pillow on the chair with something less "pretty". I would go with a plain cream upholstered bench to match your dresser and night stand. Let the bed be the star. Instead of the beige paint, I would love to see a very very soft blue or pearl grey.

This wall color would look amazing - a lighter version of the headboard color.

thank you brown dog for your suggestions. It's interesting that the photo does make the coverlet look bluer than it is- it is more aqua than blue, but I see your point. What type of fixtures and lamps would you suggest?

calidesign- we actually had the bed in a room painted a light color similar to your photo in a previous home and it was suggested to go to beige walls so the headboard would "pop" more. However, I may still have painted the bedroom a soft aqua, but the rest of the cottage is all different shades of soft aquas and blue greens and I wanted our bedroom to be different.

Any suggestions on actual lamps or other ceiling fixtures?

The first one looks very similar to the lamps I just purchased for one of the guest bedrooms, so I'd be more inclined to go with the Ballard Gourd lamp. I'm assuming the large size in ivory is what you're suggesting? Unfortunately it's backordered until early April.

Yes, I was thinking the tall one. The small one seems to be pretty tall as well. You could measure and see where the top of the lamp would be in comparison to the headboard

thank you, printesa! I think I still like the Ballard gourd lamp best. I'm headed to the coast tomorrow and will measure if the smaller lamp will work, but I think the taller is going to be better

So my next question is whether the lamp should only be on one side? The issue is my hubby likes a lamp, too- but I think shades on all the larger lamps will look crowded on the narrow side of the bed. Would it look bad to have a different lamp on that side, or a narrow floor lamp?

It depends on how much space the lamp takes..once you take the measurements, you can get an idea

Here are some ideas where you can see that some that used smaller lamps and also larger lamps, but in pretty tight spaces. The lamps don't have to match, but they need to have something in common,,either same lampshade color or shape, metal finish..if you go for something like a ginger jar, they can be different..I'll post some ideas
