I was just looking for it to see more opinions. It didn't even show up in my notifications and I posted in it.

I received an email notice about your post, Lukkiirish, in which you referred to someone else's post, but when I clicked on the link, the whole thread was gone. It's a shame, as it was a good discussion. To see it pulled is certainly discouraging.

Hopefully Houzz doesn't think that we should only talk about recipes and decorating. It may have just been flagged and is going to get reposted after review.

To anyone who actually flagged this thread and attempted to restrict a courteous conversation about real issues, I think you are ignorant of the way that a nominee can eventually change your day to day life, and so flagging was not a very smart thing to do. Not smart at all.

Hmmm. Well I referred to two in the thread. One was to someone who’s commentary reflected literally no compassion or forethought and another that did.

ETA: The first wasn’t rude but was candid and written as such to jar a little reflection.

Well darn. I was hoping to hear non-inflammatory opinions about the upcoming hearing. What I *think* I read elsewhere is that the woman and Kavenaugh (sp?) are going to testify before the nominating committee. My personal guess is that if that's all that happens it won't impact the nomination. I think the only thing that could impact the nomination is if other women were to come forward. So, if those other women exist, I'm wishing them strength and courage.

I also do not think that this woman testimony will make any difference with the "old boys" that are in Congress. I think there are other women but they are probably waiting to see how bad she is treated when she gives testimony. Sadly what she reported happens much too often. If there were two nonparticipants in the room it makes me think of a type of hazing that I have read about where a young woman is made drunk and if the two can have sex with her they are part of "the club". Having the nonparticipants in the room does two things. Verifies that there was actually sex rather than someone saying that they had nonconsensual sex. Also guarantees a method of blackmail for later usage. If my supposition of this based on case readings is true there are others that have been treated the same way. Either by the two that attempted this or a whole string of women over the years.

That's sad. Why?

I noticed my comment that I thought I had posted here, other option HT, is gone. The post was that based on my readings things like the attempted rape/nonconsensual sex with two other people standing by could be a part of hazing. The witnesses are there so no one could lie and say it did not happen but also for future blackmail purposes. If this supposition is true there are other women who had this happen to them at this school. It may not prove that Kavanaugh participated but would mean it was possible that it did actually happen. But those women may have not known because they were so drunk or today given date rape drugs to realize what happened unless they became pregnant which would have happened eventually. There are/were probably pictures taken at all such events.

Interesting I just tried to repost an earlier comment and it simply disappeared when I hit submit. Think blackmail and hazing and you may be able to know what I have attempted to post until my other comments show up.

It doesn't surprise me. There's a subset of people here at the KT who don't believe anything remotely political should be posted. I suppose Houzz could have pulled it on their own but it wasn't nasty as far as I could tell.

Probably. People just like hitting that button. It's this Authoritarian Power Over thingie.

Well, there are a number of kavanaugh threads over in hot topics, if you can take the heat...

Sometimes threads come back after the mods have reviewed them and determined that they don't break any of the Houzz rules/terms. Let's hope that's the case here. I had not commented on the thread, but I was enjoying reading the very civil and thoughtful (IMO) discussion.

ETA: Annie, I often read over at HT, but the topics always seem to end up with name calling and hurling insults making a fruitful discussion pretty much impossible. Whether it's IRL or online, at the first sign of that kind of behavior, I tune out as I figure people who do that don't have much of value to say.

Unbelievable! Who the heck is flagging this stuff?

Well I see all of my comments are back. One thing that was very strange was that the second post did not even get posted before it disappeared. Almost like someone was reading it as I typed. Reminds me more and more of where I used to work.

Fornuately, the moderators seem to be reasonable people who often return the flagged thread after they've done their review. The only threads I've seen disappear entirely are those that devolve into angry name calling and disparaging of posters.

I hope whoever flags these threads stops doing so. The KT no longer has to abide by the "no politics" rule, and hasn't for years now. Political threads are almost always clearly labeled and easy to avoid.

I saw it here on Tuesday afternoon.

And had appreciated the reasonable discussion: rather uncommon in the (semi-)political realm, these days. We need more of it if we are to preserve a democracy in which we can respect one another and various opinions.
