OK aside from turf grasses, what was your least favorite subject?
Comments (25)Loved all of the classes but we had the hardest mg test ever and it took one guy a year to complete it. Now he's on the advisory board. Go figure. I think the instructor really had it in for us because a few of us ladies sat in the back row, ate donuts, and cracked jokes. He hates me anyway cause when he asked if a fig was a fruit or a vegy, I said it's a laxative. He handed out prizes for correct or smart alec answers and I got fat free fig newtons - he made sure I knew they were fat free and told me I needed them. Ha ha. One girl cried when she thought we had to finish the test that day and slammed a book down on the hands on id part of the test. Too funny. We made jokes about Hairy Bindweed being Jackie's ex boyfriend and stuff. Also we laughed when the instructor wore a pink tie dye shirt. He has some gawwd awful plaid pants too that we seized the opportunity on laughing at. It was all great fun and we learned soooo much every week. We still can't look at each other and say Agrilus Plennipenis without laughing (that's the Emerald Ash Borer). Great fun, great opportunity to learn, and to teach others!...See MoreUpdate on my favorite subject - ME
Comments (19)My Mom had an attitude that things generally work out. Guess I got that from her. We were very close in heart if not geographically close her last few years. I still miss her . Sometimes I feel so bad that half my family of six is now gone. But I do have two wonderful daughters and I hope to have many good years with them. The little one is engaged, graduating from college next year, and plans to move to Florida. She promises to have an extra room for me. Older daughter graduates next month, it will be interesting to see how her life unfolds....See MoreIn High School What Were Your Very Best Subjects?
Comments (34)This will be a bit long, but I think everyone here will appreciate the story. The course I excelled in was one that males weren't allowed to take. I became a ground breaker when I was finally allowed to take the course and paved the way for other male students. I wanted to take Home Ec (actually it was cooking, but they didn't call it that then) in my sophomore year, 1963. When I told the counselor I was told "males can't take that course, you need to take some type of shop". When I asked why, I got the answer "because home ec is only girls". Sooo, I went first in mechanical drawing which I promptly withdrew from after pinning the instructors shirt sleeve to my board with my compass. His sleeve naturally ripped off when he was walking away. This time mom came with me (she was catering at that time and thought I should be allowed to take the course)and was handed the same line. So off to wood working I went. I lasted all of two weeks before I sent back to the counselor's office. Reason? I kept breaking the stupid saw blades. Once again mom and I make the trip and again meet the same stupid reason. O.K. electrical shop it is. To this day, I have the dubious distinction of being the only student ever to blow the entire electrical system in the school. Don't ask me how I managed that (I think the system was actually faulty and my overloading one of the outlets was the real reason it blew) but you should have seen the counselors face when mom and I went into his office. His response? "He can take ANYTHING he wants Mrs. K as long as it's not a shop." So I spent my last three years in home ec and maintained a straight A average. I did have a couple of the gals who tried to make it rough for me, but the instructor brought that to a screeching halt. I graduated in 1966 and was so upset when Mrs. D called me into her office shortly before graduation and handed me a thick package. It contained a scholarship to the chef's school in Chicago. What she didn't know was that I had enlisted in the Navy and this being 1966, there was no way out of that contract. I never did make it my career (the military wound up being my choice and a good one) but still enjoy cooking especially when we have a party. Thanks mom and Mrs. D for being pioneers in your own right too....See MoreWhat is your favorite commercial? Least favorite?
Comments (47)Guess I'm just not watching as much TV anymore but I haven't seen many of these. Don't have a favorite at least that's been broadcast in recent history. 20+ years ago there were some really good commercials on TV and radio too for that matter but now it's mute or change channels. Least favorite: Political ads, that asinine St. Jude's commercial when mommy goes "I'M SCARED TOO!" (but at least it seems they pulled that - there's a different one now), any feminine "freshness" or the Viva Viagra commercials. (Elvis must be spinning in his grave... unless they gave him a Cialis when he died.) And I don't give a hoot about "Little" Jimmy's Johnson, sheesh. Even Terry Bradshaw wouldn't do that commercial. I want to say grow up but there'd be an unintended pun there. At least now there's a good reason for weight gain. Going to get snacks during commercials. Bring back the cigarette commercials. They were creative and entertaining at least. Frank Bartles and Ed Jaymes, we need you now more than ever though the Betty White & Abe Vigoda Snickers commercial is not bad....See More- 8 years ago
